It is annoying. If you are a varget fan, I recommend learning about/looking at IMR 4320. Its kind of a forgotten powder. I had my 308 hunting rifle dialed in to same hole at 100 with varget but got a single flier in every 5 shot group. My local reloading guru threw a can of 4320 at me...
I have found many times over that for no reasons I can identify, core lokts shoot very well out of most of my rifles. In a pinch, thats what I go for until I get loads worked up for a new rifle.

Yes they seemed a little tight closing the bolt. I think your barrel removal and slightly tightened headspace theory is the most likely at this point. Yes the load was close to max and i guess thats what put it over the edge. I looked all over and wasnt able to find any cerakote where it...
I called the smith and the guy that did my barrel is out on vacation. I figure at this point it doesnt matter much because that load is no good. I tried several primer and 4895 combos with no luck, so i reached way back on my shelf, and gave imr 4320 a whirl. Second load attempted got her...
You may be on to something here. I need to ask if the barrel was pulled, although I dont think it was as my smith has a cnc lathe with a spider bit. I will say i my cases do seem extra tight and now i really have to run them all the way down with a full length die to get them to chamber...

I have been working a load on the kryptek heavy barrel 300wm for my buddy. I have it shooting about 3/4" at .035" off the lands with a 212 eld-x and rl-26. I can't remember the charge but i want to say its 2.5 or 3 grains lighter than max. Rem 9 1/2 magnum primers. Thats as good as i got it...
