I'm a newbie, but the only reason I know of to have a zero not at 100 yards is if you wish to make what I call a "hunting" zero where you set your gun up so that you hit up to say 3" high at the peak of the bullet and then you know what range you'll end up hitting 3" low. Anything out to that...
Curious here, is there anyway to calculate a zero with a ballistics app from load A to load B? Or do you just have to re-shoot and zero it again each time you switch ammo?
Ex: If I go from shooting Federal 160 gr nosler partitions @2950 and a BC of .475 from my 7mm, to shooting cheaper Federal...
How about closest? I was really confused how to line up a shot at ground level with a deer 5 yards away from me. I've never practiced under 15 yards but began after this event.
My shot went about 8 inches high. Deer was facing straight on so instead of a chest shot (I know not supposed to with...

Thank you all for the very warm welcome to the forum :) Sadly, weather and wedding planning needs didn't cooperate this weekend to get out. Long ways off, but this Saturday here so far is looking cold but no drizzle or high winds to finally get Wally to the range. I'll be following this for the...
Amazing thread. Reminds me of one I saw on Lucky Gunner doing a bunch of handgun loads from shorter barrels for concealed carry. That's how I decided what 9mm ammo to use since it was only coming out of a 3.5in barrel and the police issue stuff wasn't expanding at that velocity. Awesome to see...
So as the title says, I'm new to these forums although I've lurked around here a bit getting answers when I nearly bought a 308 rem 700 a couple years ago, and when deciding on a scope for my current 7mm rem mag. Just looking for some starting knowledge and to introduce myself (horrible screen...
