Sub 6 pound 1000 yard rifle?

Agreed, on the length. Like I mentioned earlier, I think your setup, including the 3-18 leupold is about as close as it comes to a do it all rifle. Low magnification for short range, light enough to handle offhand comfortably, enough weight to shoot steady at longer ranges. Enough killing...

Sub 6 pound 1000 yard rifle?

I'll preface my opinion by stating I have little experience shooting braked. I think that if someone can accurately shoot a given hunting rifle without, it would be advisable. It adds cost, length and weight. Most importantly, sound and muzzle blast. I prefer to hunt without hearing protection...

Sub 6 pound 1000 yard rifle?

There hasn't been much discussion on chambering here. I would be interested to hear what the OP wants to kill at 1k; antelope, deer, elk, moose, elephant? Then hearing the seasoned experts here propose a MINIMUM round to harvest that animal at 1k. From there, discuss opinions on minimum rifle...

    New vortex razor hunting scopes

I'm really interested in this line. I recently went with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 CDS, weight being a large factor, on a lightweight .300 RUM for a mountain carry rifle. I Would consider replacing it with this. Or better yet, if the model proves to be a hit, and a 4-20, or 5-25 version gets added.

    Scope mount advice

Also a little late here. First, are you talking about MTC, or Grayling? I only ask because I live in MI and am always curious on range options. Second, the setup you went with will definitely give you more distance, but probably wasn't required to get you out to 1000 with that scope (75moa...

Help with 300RUM 215 Berger and ES

That group is after 15 rds from a clean bore, several minutes between shots, I would describe the barrel as slightly warm to the touch before each shot, not completely cooled. My experience with this rifle (shooting a few boxes of remington premier 200g Aframe to get brass) is that groups open...

Help with 300RUM 215 Berger and ES

Thank you for the replies, they are both very helpful. Phil, I find yours especially helpful because it seems that most of what I read, people tend to do the opposite, find an accurate load and then "start playing around with seating depth" as I've read countless times. Your description of the...

Help with 300RUM 215 Berger and ES

I am very new to reloading, and have a broad question. When reaching the max end of a load, is it possible for ES to start to go down? Here's an example load: Remington Brass Federal 215 93 grains H1000 215grain Berger I have no pressure signs, shooting out of a 26" factory savage 110...

Anyone like CRF rifles but hate the safety?

I agree, I can't stand the model 70 style safety. Primarily, I dislike how loud it is (my experience is limited to the one model 70, .308 that I own). On all my other rifles with receiver safeties, Remington 700, 721, 725, Savage 10, 110, Whitworth (CZ mauser action), I can keep a firm grip on...

    Vortex HS vs. HS-T turrets

As a side note, I emailed Vortex on the possibility of sending an HS in to them to have exposed target turrets installed, and they promptly replied that due to design differences, converting an HS to an HS-T is not an option. (I realize there are 3rd party custom turret options for the HS)

    Vortex HS vs. HS-T turrets

Despite numerous threads discussing, I haven't found an answer to my question (although maybe my lack of experience is raising a question that most already know). Is there a functional difference when dialing on an HS vs. HS-T? Ie. Are the markings different or more user friendly on the HS-T...

    realoading for the 260 rem

I'm in the same boat as airstream, new to reloading and mid process on a .260 (new to that chambering as well). Are there any specific reloading manuals anyone prefers as far as the fundamentals go?

Do you use a cell phone to access LongRangeHunting.com

I use my Blackberry device to check out LRH quite frequently. Not at home, but when I'm away, and during breaks at work, where LRH is blocked by our company filters. To the other Blackberry users who complain about slow speed, you may want to try downloading "Opera Mini", a free browser that...

    Dialing and click values

WYcoyote, you are correct. I was pretty well set on a Vortex Viper, until I came across those and their reviews. Did you purchase one, and are you happy? Everyone here pretty much confirmed what I was leaning towards. The biggest reason I was considering the higher magnification was for...
