    SOLD/EXPIRED WTS: Winchester 70 Heavy Varmint 22-250

I do not. I bought the rifle used in 1997 and have put approx. 70 rounds through it, all from 1997-1999. I have more photos of the bolt to help assess wear, if required.

looking for opinions for a new pack

Agreed. A good external frame is priceless. Europe still puts out some great external kit. Norrona has been making bomb-proof external frames for a long time. They are one of the best kept secrets in winter warfare. For discrete use, I like to use a Fjallraven Stubben. It doesn't look like much...

looking for opinions for a new pack

It's funny that what's old is new again. The pack system that replaced the ILBE has a plastic external frame that breaks easily. Most of the 03's that I know have already swapped the frame out to old ALICE frames with updated straps.

looking for opinions for a new pack

I don't think so. Packs are a very personal item, much like boots. One person's favorite is another person's pain-fest. I was issued an Eberlestock Terminator and tried to get it dialed in for a couple of years. I just could not get it comfortable for me. I traded it to someone else for some...

    Elevated scope bases

Here's a couple of inexpensive options: The war-proven duct tape and sleeping pad cheekpiece Kydex adjustable cheek piece, available all over the interwebs. You can custom dial both to your specific needs and it gives you a better idea of what you want/need on your next project.

    Need how 2 GPS advice

I've been using the Garmin 60 series since they came out and performing the setup and instruction of them at my work for quite a few years. Everyone learns them different ways. If you are accustomed to map and compass, use them and then back up your work with the GPS. If you are used to a...

looking for opinions for a new pack

Ditto on Mystery Ranch. I run three of them (30ltr, 55ltr, and 80ltr) and everyone I work with either has MR or wishes they had one. I've deployed with all three at one time or another. Another light weight pack I've had the pleasure to spend a winter with was the Wild Things Andinista pack...

    Snow Shoes vs Micro Spikes

I'm a huge fan of the MSR Lightening Ascents. They tend to grip better than my older Denalis or tube-framed Atlas. If I'm by myself, I'll use "sweeper" skis; short, wide skis with built in skins and bindings that accept any boot. They aren't as fast as back-country skis, but they are must...

Lightweight stoves for cold weather backpacking

I second that. I've spent many years running many types of fuels through the Whisperlite series in a variety of environments. Their history of running trouble-free through any temperature goes a long way. As does their ability to run on anything from white gas to siphoned Humvee diesel to CH-53...

    Need Jacket advise

I'm a big fan of both. In my experience, a good, light Primaloft jacket like the Arcteryx Atom LT offers incredible warmth to weight ratio in a very compressible package. As far as marino wool goes, I appreciate the wide temperature range I can comfortably operate in. I find I can go from...

    Need Jacket advise

Like others have mentioned, the outer shell is just one of the three components (wicking, warming, weather). This method is very versatile and adaptable to many environments, much like the military 7-level Protective Combat Uniform (PCU). I like to keep my outer shell simple as it takes the...
