Hello Jim,
With the bolt removed from the rifle, one can observe the operation of the ejector and extractor by taking an empty case and hooking the rim of the case under the extractor and prying the mouth of the case in the opposite direction to observe the engagement of the ejector. The head...
The Savage High Country might be a place to look. I have one in 270 win and it is wonderfully accurate with factory ammo. In fact, it shoots so well, I don't waste my time handloading for it. Additionally, it is threaded for a suppressor; however, the factory trigger was replaced with a Timney.
The 722 and 721 are great rifles and are the grandfathers to the 700. In fact, the bolt patterns and the triggers are the same (except the safety lever). The barrels and receivers are rust blued and rumored to made from surplus WWII "ordnance" steel. The rear bridge, like the earlier 700's...
Hello CJC73,
I am seeing this thread for the first time, so if you have finished your project I hope it came out well. If you are looking for a vintage finish, posted below is the procedure by John Kay for a true oil finish. Mr. Kay has long since passed but his stock work was some of the...

I think the Remington quality is similar to any other mass produced factory rifle. Oxidation occurs on carbon steel when the environmental conditions are right (temperature and humidity). Your 700 will clean up easy. As others have mentioned, remove barrelled action from the stock and lightly...
I believe the screw is slightly too long for the front receiver hole and is impacting the barrel threads. File or grind 2 threads off the screw and it should fit perfectly. The white powder is dried Loctite - after you loosen the screw the bond is broken resulting in the debris. The powder...

Remington Ammunition is now owned by Vista Outdoors, and not the Remington of old. Federal and Speer are also owned by Vista, so it is not unusual for the products to overlap. https://vistaoutdoor.com/brands/
H-S Precision Drop Mags are the best I have seen or used for hunting. The HS is not compatible with M5, they will fit standard BDL.

Modern Remington 700's with the BDL designation have a hinged floor plate; ADL is the blind magazine.
Generally speaking, the DuPont made Remington firearms were better than the more recently made versions. DuPont sold Remington in 1993, making your 700 action more desirable.

Plain old 280 Remington. Threaded barrel for suppressor or brake. I might go with an 8 twist if you elect to shoot heavier bullets, but a standard 160 grain with a 9 twist will work well out to your max of 550y.
My thought is absolutely try it. Should the rifle not shoot to your expectations, then swap with a new barrel. The original barrel would have likely never been used again, anyway.
