Mauser build 338-06 or 338 Win mag

I have had no problems with loading the 338-06 AI with Redding dies, they have the 338-06 AI dies with both 25 degree and 40 degree shoulders or at least they did when I had mine built, my rifle is chambered for the 40 degree shoulder. The gunsmith that built mine as well as others have...

Mauser build 338-06 or 338 Win mag

I had a 338-06 AI built several years ago on a 98 Mauser action very accurate with both my fire forming load (56 gr. IMR 4350 behind a 200 gr. Speer SP) and my standard hunting load (53 gr of IMR 4320 behind a 225 gr. Hornady SP) I have killed animals with both. 58 gr of IMR 4350 behind the...

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

Have read and participated in some very interesting stories on this thread and contributed some of my own. From what I've read most seem to know what it takes and has the equipment with them to handle taking care of a elk. I was very fortunate when I started hunting elk in Idaho in my late...

Your going your hunt of a lifetome what are you hunting and what rifle are you using ? Mine is easy

I'm fully aware of the 338/378 Weatherby and I'm sure that's what the person I was referring to (dgr416) meant, but he mentioned a custom built rifle for Weatherby in 348/378, I wasn't aware of such a caliber or that Weatherby would have a custom rifle built.

It would be easy for me, my pre 64 Model 70 Winchester 30-06. I've owned this rifle for over 50 years, it has several "first " for me, has been a very lucky rifle for me with several last day of the season kills, this is the rifle I take hunting when the chips are down. For any big game animal...

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

When I was in my 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's it didn't matter, I could gut, skin, quarter, and hang up the quarters by myself and go back to camp or home and get help. Knees were shot by my late 50's and in my mid 60's had total replacements on both knees. Packing heavy loads (elk quarters) on...

25SST takes new Idaho record Bear.

One would think, it also wasn't in the Idaho Big Game Records as of today, I don't know how often Idaho F&G updates. Hope to see what it scores, still a great trophy regardless of the score.

I thought the drying period was 60 days but maybe they changed it, it's been 30 years since I had anything officially scored.

A great bear and trophy of a lifetime for sure. As I stated in a previous comment back when this was first posted, I am looking forward to seeing this great trophy at the top of the Idaho record books. I have read all the comments and there seems to be some conflicting statements (elkaholic)...
