6.5-06 is a good choice. Then you can use any 30-06 brass you have although it will require trimming. I use 25-06 brass in my 6.5 so I don’t have to trim. 400 yard is no big deal for this cartridge.

If you have the know how, buy a Remington 700, drop in a nice trigger and top it with a Bushnell xrs. That would be a great setup for around $2k. If you don’t feel good about putting a trigger in, go with a x-bolt.

Some people will spend any amount of money to get the latest greatest scope but there comes a point where you get diminishing returns. Is a scope really twice as good if you pay twice as much? I would suggest the Burris xtr. If you want to spend more I vote vortex razor.

Barrel is a McGowan 30” 1-9 twist. Only been able to shoot to 1200. 4.5 inch 3 shot group.

I wanted to do a budget .338 edge and ended up spending right at $1000 on everything seen here excluding the scope. Nothing flashy but this will shoot sub .5 moa all day with 300 Nosler custom comps and H1000.

I went with a 6.5-06. You can find brass anywhere. Basically a ballistics twin to the 284 but you can find brass in any cabelas you walk in to. I start with 25-06 brass so there is no trimming required. Best accuracy in mine is 2960 in a 26” barrel
