I do regret selling a Rem 700 Titanium in 7mm-08 about 20 years ago. At the time I was hunting Colorado and I had not shot in in years, now retired back in rural PA it would be perfect for here..
It's fun buying and selling, in years past I would buy and sell 5 to 8 guns each year. I normally hold on to a gun for a couple years as I redefine what guns I want to hunt with.

Melvin Forbes ULA in 30-06
Weatherby Wilderness in 240 wby mag
Sako 85 Finnlight in 30-06
Have had Neil Jones of Saegertown, Pennsylvania fix several BLR triggers that Browning or anyone else could not fix.
He did a great job making a terrible trigger smooth as silk, with a BLR it is not how low it can be set but how smooth...
Google him
I had JES rebore a Tikka T3 270win to 35 Whelen, it is one of my most accurate guns I every owned, I also had him rebore a Kimber 308 to .358 WIN with a 19 inch barrel it ended up being under 4 lbs without scope. Great backpacking gun!
I will be heading back to CO again this year with a Bull Elk tag and my gun again will be my 30-06 shooting 168 T-TSX's. I always practice out and beyond 500 yards but rarely need to shoot past 300. Useless you spend lots of time shooting that far I would not recommend doing so.
My first gun I bought after college was a new Ruger 30-06 which I loved but as I got older the less recoil of the 270 won me over. My Barret Fieldcraft 270 is my favorite gun, it shoots Barnes 130 gr lead free in tiny groups for states I hunt that require lead free but also shots Bergers 150 gr...
+1
Where are your friends hunting? I regularly hunt high sierra's in CA, Southwest Colorado, mountains in PA and occasionally Texas and Kansas. Not one of these places need the weigh and bulk of a 30mm 4-16 scope unless you like carrying a extra pound of scope. IMHO stick to a 1" 3-9x40 or...
Wanted a 6mm looked at the Creedmoor but since I have dies, brass and loaded ammunition for the 243 I went old school.
If I wanted a longer range 6mm I would build a fast twisted 240 weatherby mag.
Last year I rebored a .308 Kimber Montana to 358 WIN and cut it to 18.5 inches. With a 2-7x33 scope it is 5 lbs 8 ounces of sweetness that pushes 200 gr T-TSX at 2690 fps.
Even having one I keep looking at Grice's and thinking I need a second 358's to leave back home in PA :)
My Forbes 24B was one of the very early ones so it's finish was good and shot well out of the box but Titan mfg is gone and even though you can get some parts from Melvin Forbes that option will not last forever. Both of my Kimbers a Ascent and Adirondack are nice BUT I had to have both bedded...
Midwayusa has the Magneto Speed Sporter for $179.99
I am still using my MagnetoSpeed Gen 1 with no issues, Mine is still attached to the barrel but have seen some attached to shooting rests. That makes it easy to switch guns and does not interfere with your groups.
I do see a few guys at the...
Not a 338 but my sweet .358 WIN
Kimber Montana .308 barrel rebored to .358 WIN by JES chopped t 19"
with an montana Ascent stock it weighs in at 5 lbs 8 oz scoped.
