    25-06 Loads

My 25-06 likes 50.0 grains of H4350 with 120 grain bullets and Federal 210 primers for MOA to 300 yards.

What keeps a round from holding MOA

After reading the posts from you guys, it sounds like most of my problems are most likely my techniques. I have only recently began shooting targets past 200, and this is with hunting scopes that top out at 9X. My 6 shot 300 yard groups usually go between 2 3/4" to 3 1/4". The 400 yard groups...

What keeps a round from holding MOA

Thanks everyone, it really helped getting feed back from experienced LR shooters.

What keeps a round from holding MOA

The 400 yard groups 6 shot groups are usually a horizontal oval shape (wind) and I do have the 3 x 9 syndrome and hunting bullets, not target bullets. You guys mentioned variable velocity rates, which could also be contributing, because I don't yet have a chrony. So there is hope of...

If you had a choice ?

Hit-em, The .280 Ackley may fit your criteria, it practically matches velocity with the 7 RM with a bit less recoil and powder. You can get 30-06 Lapua or National match brass and neck down. I don't think you scratched out wildcats, the factory rounds have merit, but that the 280 Ackley is...

What keeps a round from holding MOA

I have several rifles that are good shooters. Sub MOA at 100, 200, about right on MOA at 300. But by 400 they are way out. I read about guys holding MOA at much longer ranges, is it because of barrel weight? Or some other shooting mystery?

If you had a choice ?

Varmint hunter, I have not heard Lapua brass is available in the WSM lineup. I would like some for my 270 WSM if I found a source. I believe it is available in 6.5/284,& 300 win mag. but not 7 RM

6.5 WSM or 264 Win Mag

7ultra, If your planning on a 26" barrel for 3000 fps, the 6.5-06 would give you that. If you wanted more speed and recoil after you play around with it for a while, you could have it rechambered to 6.5-06AI. The new canted land barrels by Broughton are gaining reputation momentum for accuracy...

6.5 WSM or 264 Win Mag

Compared to a 264 win mag my preference would be either a 6.5 WSM or 6.5-06AI. Dunno, if I can give a good reason, they just seem more interesting and I feel a higher accuracy potential. I have a fairly new 6.5-06 it likes both 140 SST and 130 TSX, I am still playing around with load...

Why is 7mm not good in long range competition?

I am wanting a rifle light enough to carry around hunting. I was just looking to the other world of target rifles for some tips, but it may not be an accurate interface. Comparing the results of Berger and other match bullets with results from TSX, Accubonds etc. may be futile. But none the less...

Why is 7mm not good in long range competition?

My idea of extreme range for hunting would be vaguely between 400 out to say 700 yards. So, I was scanning the web for long range competiton results and it just seemed very odd that 7mm with the high BC's didn't appear to be equal to the 300 Ackley or Win Mags.

Why is 7mm not good in long range competition?

So at extreme range with hunting bullets like Scirroco, TSX, SST, Accubonds, etc., the 7 WSM may be as accurate or possibly more so than the .300 Win Mag.? [ 10-13-2004: Message edited by: StrayDog ]

Why is 7mm not good in long range competition?

I am thinking about averages, as I know there must be a few extreme range 7mm guns. But as you look at the results of 1000 yard competitons it is mostly .300 mags or 6.5's? It seems a bit of a mystery to me that 7mm bullets usually have higher BC's but are not extreme range winners, can...

    Seeking Custom Rifle Makers

I'm just curious, how long was your rifle at Tooley's? I share your opinion that he is good, that's why I sent him a project, but he has had it for a long time.

    Seeking Custom Rifle Makers

You might try the website for sst.benchrest.com they have lots of barrel makers and smiths etc. or looking over some competition results. They often have the gunsmiths name that put the rifle together. I can think of a couple of accuracy smiths that you would probably like dealing with, and...
