I have several rifles that are good shooters. Sub MOA at 100, 200, about right on MOA at 300. But by 400 they are way out. I read about guys holding MOA at much longer ranges, is it because of barrel weight? Or some other shooting mystery?

Varmint hunter, I have not heard Lapua brass is available in the WSM lineup. I would like some for my 270 WSM if I found a source. I believe it is available in 6.5/284,& 300 win mag. but not 7 RM

7ultra, If your planning on a 26" barrel for 3000 fps, the 6.5-06 would give you that. If you wanted more speed and recoil after you play around with it for a while, you could have it rechambered to 6.5-06AI. The new canted land barrels by Broughton are gaining reputation momentum for accuracy...

I am wanting a rifle light enough to carry around hunting. I was just looking to the other world of target rifles for some tips, but it may not be an accurate interface. My idea of extreme range for hunting would be vaguely between 400 out to say 700 yards. So, I was scanning the web for long range competiton results and it just seemed very odd that 7mm with the high BC's didn't appear to be equal to the 300 Ackley or Win Mags.

I am thinking about averages, as I know there must be a few extreme range 7mm guns. But as you look at the results of 1000 yard competitons it is mostly .300 mags or 6.5's? It seems a bit of a mystery to me that 7mm bullets usually have higher BC's but are not extreme range winners, can...
