    How do you judge wind

I’ve found that wind at the beginning of a projectile’s path has a greater effect at long range than the same wind at the end of its path. Let’s say your target is at 1760 yards. Your bullet has a G7 BC of .442 @ 3100 fps. You have a strong cross wind from the left for the first 400 yards...

    Help! Can't believe this happened

It looks like a a flat, hardened, foreign object, occupied the third port from the muzzle. It “Rolled / flattened the forward edge of this port, scratching the carbon on the interior of the opposing side of the brake, as it was levered forward, fracturing the thin rear wall of this port.

    Spotting Scope/Binos???

I carry 10 x 42 sworo’s in a chest harness. I’ll set with my pack upright, between my knees and use it for a rest for the binoculars. I don’t usually carry a tripod. I also carry a Nikon cool pix 900 or 610 camera. The 900 weighs 2 pounds with 83x zoom. The 610 weighs 19 oz with 60x zoom. Both...

A newcomers perspective/guide into Customs and reloading

“Hydro locked” may be some of my redneck vernacular. If the threaded hole for the screw doesn’t pass through the receiver, and you apply too much liquid, the screws will will bottom out on the liquid and the head of the screw won’t bear on the rail at torque settings.

A newcomers perspective/guide into Customs and reloading

You have nice equipment. I doubt it’s the rifle or scope. You shoot sub minute accuracy with other rifles, so it’s probably not you. I would look at the simple things first. Big 30 and 338’s with breaks are VERY hard on scope mounts. I would pull your rings and go over your base or bases...

    30-378 weatherby powder recommendation

US869 is my favorite in the .30-378. With a long 30” to 32” barrel, velocity with the 230 grain Berger’s will be over 3200 FPS. With the 250 A Tip, 3100 FPS. With a shorter barrel and the 205 Elite hunters, Retumbo may have an edge velocity wise. Reloader 33, Reloader 50, 50 BMG, WC 872, and the...

    McMillan A5 - Can I inlet for 1.47" Nesika L Action??

Hi Archfile, My A5 is 1.85” overall (red marks). It’s inletted for a Stiller Tac 338 action that is 1.4” in diameter. That would leave about .225 per side. (Green marks). It’s about 11 years old. I’ve done some work to it, studs, inlet the adjustable cheek piece, etc. The core is a fairly...

    Understanding cartridge efficiency

I think to determine the efficiency of a cartridge, you should factor in the task at hand. If that task is shoot small game at 60 yards on a calm day, the .22 long rifle would be at the top of the list. If the task is to put down a tough target at 2000 yards, in windy conditions, then barrel...
