How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

I’ve done it and would not recommend. The deer swings back and forth and no amount of padding will protect your shoulder.

Your going your hunt of a lifetome what are you hunting and what rifle are you using ? Mine is easy

o’ e already lived most of my dreams and hunted throughout NA, Europe, and Africa. Mostly using my Blaser rifles R8 and K95 or a bow. But for my grand slam of sheep I used my Prarie Gunworks 18TI in 6.5 STW. But the only game animal I haven’t taken and want to take is an oscillated turkey. So...

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

I’ll be 70 years old next month and I hunt a wilderness area in Arizona mostly archery and mostly bulls. I’ve hunted this area for 44 years now and in that time I’ve killed one bull with a rifle, 17 bulls with a bow, compound, recurve, and longbow, and 4 cows with bow. Some have been close to a...

Difference between Lapua and Strelok app ?

The mathematics for most ballistic calculators are the same. The differences are almost always a difference in inputs, usually unintentional. I’ve run the same data through JBM, Applied Ballistics, Hornady standard and 4DOF, Berger which is a simple version of Applied Ballistics, Shooters and...

    7prc > 7rm ??

And this is what the 7mm PRC was designed for, shooting long heavy bullets, not standard bullets developed for the 7mm REM MAG. But it is not only the faster twist rate it is also that it will seat heavy bullets with long skinny noses without encroaching into the powder column as much as the 7mm...

What is the most overbore cartridge YOU HAVE USED?

I think you are limiting the performance of the 30-378 with your load selection. I shoot that same bullet with 107.5 grains of retumbo at 3425 fps. Even the Weatherby factory load achieves this velocity or close enough, 3,420.

What is the most overbore cartridge YOU HAVE USED?

I built a lightweight sheep rifle in 6.5 STW about 25 years ago, everyone told me it would be a barrel burner, but I didn't much care since it was a purpose built hunting rifle not something I planed to shoot a lot. This was before laser range finders were very capable so it helped me with range...

    What would you do?

Wow, lots of opinions here but 1000 yard 10” groups (which I would restrict myself to) are really far and few when discussing hunting rifles and field conditions. Very few have the skills and knowledge to consistently hit a 10” target with the first shot at 1000 yards. I was just out testing a...

    Necessary precision to kill something

Most hunters, have never shot enough to really learn to shoot to the potential of even a one MOA capable gun system, and I put myself in this category for much of my 60+ year hunting career. I am a US Distinguished Rifleman and have had the privilege of leading the Florida State High Power rifle...

    Necessary precision to kill something

I think you will find that has been greatly improved as of late. As silly as it seems the problem is with a molecular level of hydrocarbons on the surface of the jacket and how that affects the draw of the jacket in the dies. The wash chemistry is the key to controlling that aspect. However it...

    Necessary precision to kill something

Yeah, I know. We are adding equipment as fast as we can without compromising quality. But it seems like every new machine we bring on line comes with an equal increase in backlog.

    Necessary precision to kill something

This is a great explanation of the precision and accuracy requirements for long range 1st round hits on big game animals vitals in mountainous terrain. It is much more difficult than most people imagine because most people don’t actually practice in the mountains enough to fully understand. I...

    New Garmin vs Magneto

300 meters from a return to battery railed gun, and up to 4” of deflection.

    New Garmin vs Magneto

I’m not here to bash or promote one product over another they are simply tools and all tools can be used skillfully or with lack of understanding and skill. However. The thought that the magnetospeed only affects point of impact by changing barrel harmonics is incorrect. You can mount it at...
