Looking forward to this coming bear season. I was out checking one of spots in Luzerne County on Saturday and it was loaded with bear crap! Felt like I was walking through a cow pasture!
I've hunted with my scoped SRH in .44 Magnum for quite a few years. I use it for deer and bear here in PA. I've taken several deer with this handgun, but still waiting to take my first black bear. Maybe this year!
I use nothing but handloaded Hornady 240 or 300 grain XTP's. Love those rounds...
In PA, we can't use Garands or any semi-auto rifles for hunting.
However, my deer load for my 1903A3 is a Hornady 150gr BSTP over 47.0gr of IMR-4895. I have shot this load out of my M1 Garand with excellent accuracy.
I have a 1:9 Savage 12FV .223 and was out working on some heavy Varget loads today. My Savage absolutely loves the Hornady 55gr Vmax and 75gr BTHP bullets.
Looks like this will be my Varget load for the 75gr BTHP. Range was 100yds, shot from a rest.
And to make sure my rifle still liked...
This is a 3-shot group at 100yds from my Savage 12FV in .223 fired from a rest. The bullets were Hornady 75gr BTHP over 22.0gr of H335.
Same load, just more shots with a flyer!
A Winchester Model 70XTR in .30/06 that I bought at the Marine Corps PX at Camp LeJeune, NC in 1981.
It wore an inexpensive Bushnell 3-9x 32mm Sportview scope up until a few years ago. The scope never once gave me an issue, even after my brother dropped the rifle and it landed on the top...
Thanks. Haven't really shot anything long range since getting out of the USMC many moons ago. I would shoot out to 200 yards when sighting in my deer rifles, but I've been playing with my Savage 12FV this year. Only shot out to 100 yards, but looking forward to shooting at some longer ranges.
This is my Savage 12FV in .223 which I only really started playing around with this year. I changed out the factory stock for a B&C Duramax stock and replaced the factory bolt handle with one from Sharp Shooter Supply. The scope is a Mueller 4-16x 50 AO IR. Also added a padded/raised cheek pad...
