Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Ramshot Magnum. It's the best overall in my rifle; load details in my original post. I'm at max powder capacity then.

    Peterson Brass &&^^%$##$%

Some already pointed it out: Peterson brass is thicker than many other, so it has lower volume. This can get extreme: in my 7mm WBY, I max out velocities almost 2 full grains of powder lower than listed in official sources. Here's an additional problem: it is recommended that in load development...

    "Probably" 😝 "Here's a new shiny rifle. Don't sue".

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

The 150 gr TTSX load gives: 700 yards: 1847 fps, 1136 ft-lbs 800 yds: 1691 fps, 952 ft-lbs It's splitting hairs, on paper, unless these perform MUCH better on game. At this distance, the theory shows the TTSX to be "better". It would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparison of TSXs with...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Thanks. At this point, what would be the advantage of this bullet over the 150 TTSX, though? Is it superior enough to work on load development? It's expensive. Its G1 BC is about .42, less aerodynamic than the TTSX. It is also a bit lighter. Unless I could shoot it very fast and its terminal...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

I agree, the faster the better. Notice though, that different weight Barnes projectiles in THE SAME CALIBER need different minimum velocities to open. Some of these differences are large. One of us posted a table here on this forum with minimum velocities required, I added some details about the...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Thanks. It's a very well constructed bullet, but I have no experience with Sciroccos. Expensive? Meh... 160 gr Accubonds cost more and these are my default for things within 500 yds, besides the copper bullets I've been using lately. Scirocco is basically a stouter Accubond, correct me if I'm...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Why would that be? Barnes lists the expansion velocity of the 145 gr LRX at 1500 fps. It is IDENTICAL to a 150 gr TTSX. The only advantage here is a marginally better BC. I'd have to develop the load to see how fast I could launch them. The 145 LRX is also a bit lighter, which affects its...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Thanks. What's the COAL of that cartridge? Twist in your barrel? What ranges did you take game with it and any issues with stabilization at a distance? Keyholing on game? Lots of questions. I might be back to ask for the load info, haha... I appreciate it.

257 WBY has been on my "to do" list for a while; those velocities are mind numbing... Why did you want that buck so dead? 😄

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

I was too. It's one of the reasons I picked the 150 TTSX to toy with; 1500 fps to open! I thought that guy wasn't honest as similar bullets open usually at ~1900 fps. Some need to be over 2000 fps! The 1500 fps might be for "perfect conditions". My recent thoughts exactly! I thought about LRX...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

It depends on a caliber; I would likely not shoot copper in a 308 at that distance ;) My TTSX loads "work on paper" to 800 yds. 700 "should" work on game. And yes, the trade off here is the rapidly decreasing velocity over distance that the copper monos need to perform... If they hit their...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

That would be very interesting to see the results of a TTSX hitting game at this velocity. Difficult to imagine the amount of bloodshot meat at this crazy speed! BTs are known to disintegrate at higher velocities; sometimes it's good, sometimes not.

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

I share the same concern. 800 yds with my numbers would PERHAPS work. It's at the velocity threshold that opens these bullets, and below the psychological barrier of 1000 ft-lbs energy - this is risking injuring the animal. 700 yds has a better margin of error. Now, what if the bull of a...

Thoughts on 150 gr TTSX performance in 7mm WBY MAG

Based on what I saw so far, within 200 yds the copper monos absolutely dominate, because of their terminal ballistics at high velocities. 200-500 yds things get weird, and 700 yds and beyond is pushing it... Well constructed lead bullets start to dominate here, but it's lead and they can't match...
