    ok, what do I need for a decent priced long range elk gun?

    lovdasnow, I would recommend getting a 300 RUM, handloading a 165GR. of your peference, 96.0gr. RL22 and tackle elk with a well placed shot at extremely long ranges with confidence. This load in my Sendero produces 3600fps. and 4750ftlbs +or-. I can attest to 800yds and one shot!

    first shots at 500

    GRIT, 12x is enough power to shoot out to 1000 yds I currently dot it with one of my rifles, but i would recommend using more. 20x-30x is nice!

    Question on seating depth

    BOONE, I load a 165gr. NBT with 96.0 grains of RL 22 powder in a 300 RUM sendero I chrono it at 3590 fps. out of 26" barrel with a C.O.L. of 3.690" I shoot out to 1000 yds with excellent results.
