    calling dogs----

While I can’t say I have ever seen a Bigfoot “in person”, I have absolutely seen some things up close and personal that many say don’t exist and/or they don’t believe in. Due to these experiences, I find it impossible and foolish to dismiss the possibility of an undiscovered or undocumented...

Meplat trimming pf Nosler 180 Grn Partitions

Blems are usually just cosmetic with no effect on performance. I second the recommendation to shoot them ”as is” and not worry about it. You’ll do more harm than good by trimming. They’re typically more accurate than most shooters in the field to well past 400 yards.

Factory 338 Lapua carry rifle for hunting?

I’m another one with the Weatherby Mark V Accumark. I spent the extra few hundred and got the “range certified” version. It is an absolute tack driver with 250’s and 300’s but is just average with lighter bullets. It is also on the heavier side for a carry rifle but is fine for long range...

Do Not Mount Your Scope Level

Seriously? At 100 yards? All things considered, I would guess that would not be likely to result in the desired results. Sounds WAY TOO complicated for my simple mind. I should probably stick with ‘Kentucky windage’ and my Kestrel. Good luck and let’s us know how that works out.

    300 win mag Brass

I agree with TheZigor about heavier bullets in your factory barrel. You might want to try a few first before buying for the life of the barrel. In my experience, most will group best with 180’s, some will be okay with 200’s, but I’ve not seen one yet group 210’s or heavier worth a flip...

Are the prices ever coming down on components?!

As I have heard recently, “I’d believe a Bigfoot sighting, riding the LochNess monster on his way to an Elvis concert before I’d believe“ the majority of people voted for this! Lets go Brandon!

    One Got Lucky

You’ll get him next time…if someone else doesn’t in the interim. That rabbit just reinforced him to come to the call!

    375 H&H Magnum Brass Needed..

Haven’t seen any brass in quite a while. You may want to consider buying factory rounds for Something to shoot and the brass. Just a suggestion as I have seen ammo available.

    300 WM, Peterson and Winchester

While I’ve used 760 before, I was using Winchester brass so my loads won’t work in your Peterson brass. Since you are open to trying other powders, I primarily use Magnum in my 300WM with H1000 as an alternative. I would also recommend the 180g Accubond for your factory barrel. That...

    First harvest

There’s nothing wrong with the Partition…it was a good choice and probably one of the all-time best for hunting. I would not think twice about them in the future and it’s a perfect match in your 7mag for elk. The problem with Partitions is many people don’t understand how they work. They will...

    243 powder

All powders mentioned so far are good. However, my best has been RL17 with 100 Nosler partitions, Hunter with the 85 TSX, and IMR4350 with the 80 Nosler varmint ballistic tip. YMMV

    IMR 4831 VS H4831SC

I started loading in 1970 with my favorite caliber, the 270 Winchester. Since that time, I’ve owned or loaded for many 270’s. In my experience, you haven’t come close to 3000fps yet. You will likely find it with H4831 north of 59g. The majority of rifles that I have loaded for will have...

Long Range Elk Gun, What caliber you would choose?

I’m completely satisfied with what I’ve been using the last 5-6 years. Out to say 600 yards, it will be my 300WM with 180g Noslers. If I know it will be beyond that, say 1000-1200 yards, it’s my 338LM with 250g Noslers. But as mentioned in another thread, I recently found a 300g accubond load...

    270 Win for Elk using 130 SST/130 Accubond/130NP

I’ve killed elk with my 270 using the accubond and the partition. Out of the bullets you mentioned, I would use the partition as first choice followed by the Accubond. If you choose the later, stay away from bones. In my experience, the accubond has a bad tendency to come apart over 3000fps...

Can you satterlee/ladder test on virgin brass?

I used to worry about that too. However, I found out that in most cases, you will have a load for virgin brass and might need to tweak it a bit but you’ll be pretty close with fire formed brass. My most recent effort was with my 338 LM using virgin Lapua brass, RL 33 powder, and 300g Nosler...
