    Help for a New Guy!

Sounds like a good, honest question. If you want to squeeze all the accuracy you can out of your rifle, you will almost always need to reload. And if you are planning a new rifle build, choosing the best cartridge for your needs is one of the most important decisions you will make. You...

SOLD/EXPIRED South Texas Management Buck Hunt

Good question. The price includes a hog.

SOLD/EXPIRED South Texas Management Buck Hunt

I have two, possibly three spots open for a South Texas Management Buck Hunt. The hunt is on a ranch with over 5000 acres of low-fenced land, located in Dimmit County, which is in what is known as the Golden Triangle for deer hunting in South Texas. The ranch has diverse landscapes...

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

I see from the guns you have listed that you also like the Vanguards. And I've also got the Savage LRH in 6.5/284. It's a shooter.

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

That is interesting. I don't think I need to have a three or four round capacity, but two sure beats one. I think I would give that a try, then I could always fit a larger Remington box to it later if I wanted. I am fairly set on 30 cal. My reasoning is that I want a gun capable of long...

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

That's sort of the way I'm leaning. I've always liked the 300 Wby for the extra velocity, but I'm thinking 300 Win will have a bit more room in either the Vanguard mag box, or a Remington mag box if I have it fitted for it. Thanks for the info on fitting them to a Vanguard.

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

I have talked to Pac-Nor about a 28" sendero contour, fluted barrel, truing my action, and fitting their barrel to it. I have done some research and it seems that most of the folks that have them speak highly of them.

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

I have thought about selling it, but it's the first gun my wife bought for me, and i give it extra value because of it. What bullet are you shooting in your Vanguard you set up for 300 Wby?

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

That sounds like good advice. Thank you. Do you think my magazine length would be a limiting factor on performance in 300 Wby shooting the 215 or 230 Bergers. I thought I could go to the 300 Win if seating the bullet out would lead to better accuracy. I know it's only one factor out of a...

    First Long Range Rifle Scope?

Vortex Viper PST 6-24 x 50, (not FFP) It's priced at $749 at cameralandny, but I've bought two from them, and both times they gave me a $75 discount for mentioning long range hunting. They are great scopes, with a lot of good features.

Thanks for the suggestion. If it has a case design that could be inherently more accurate, that is a plus.

    Wby Vanguard re-barrel suggestions

I have a Weatherby Vanguard (not the S2), chambered in 300 Wby. I am interested in upgrading the 24" sporter contour barrel to a 28" sendero contour. I plan on loading Berger 215 or 230's. I just don't know if I can find an accurate load with those bullets while still keeping the coal...

    Best Lightweight Tripod

I use a Vanguard Alta+ 233AO. It doesn't weigh too much, but it does great under my 80mm Vortex scope. It is described as a great backpacking tripod, and I agree. The panhead has very smooth movement, and the unit costs less than I would think for the quality. And Len sells them in the LRH...

    Backpack hunting & meat hauling

I think the weight of the crew cab is fine. I've never had a second thought about it. I use it to pack in on 5 day hunts. And then I use it to carry each day while hunting. It's adaptable for both uses, and it compacts down very small for the long hikes. I added the optional load cells...
