7mm,6.5 creeds, PRC's and Happy St. Patrick's day!

Redneck, yes I'm aware that the parent is the 375. My point was that I guess its about timing. When I chose the 375 ruger was when I needed to make a choice it was in improvement but only slightly. I'm not knocking these cases, I was just wondering what the hub bub was all about. Case capacities...

Q: Heavier Profile & Flute, or go Lighter profile for same weight...???

I would go with #3 no can no fluting, 22-24, recoil shouldn't be enough to be a problem near perfect first rifle that could last a lifetime 7-08 is a fine cartridge. If the rifle ends up just a little heavy he will grow into it. Spend money on good hearing protection. some of this is expensive...

7mm,6.5 creeds, PRC's and Happy St. Patrick's day!

Oh boy, forgive me folks as I have been out of the game a while until recently. The plethora of new cartridges is truly mind boggling. Recently I got started on a re-barrel project and I selected the 280AI. Goal: to get it to shoot with the factory 7mm rem mag numbers. I believe I will be able...

Good evening gents, I finally have that Sako TRG-s at the smith or will have this week. Thinking about loads and bullets. what are you fellas&ladies using? My default is usually AB's. this is a hunting rifle shots mostly under 400 but my stretch 600. I'm open to whatever. Looking for great...

looking to build a a new better handling rifle

Thank you sir, And thanks to this forum the suggestions as they have helped me focus on what really makes sense. In this world of too many options I guess its great that we get to choose literally 50-200fps apart between cartridges! Its a pool of options that can derail what makes the most...

looking to build a a new better handling rifle

lenny & Alib. I agree the 270 is a fine rifle and I have had many people ask me what one gun would be best. The old argument of 30-06 or 270 always seams to come up. But for elk and down 270 and elk and bigger in grizzly country 30-06. I really prefer the 270 and will pick it over the 30-06...

looking to build a a new better handling rifle

Ok, I have made the decision to go with the Sako and chamber it for the 280AI fast twist. I'll keep the stock for now and see what it will do. There are so many barrel makers out there this should be a challenge. I have used a few lilja, hart and barlien in my past I have to say the bartlien on...

looking to build a a new better handling rifle

John, I think your spot on. I just did some checking on my two doners. The mag on the sako is longer than usual and staggard. I put some of my 6.5-06's in it and it holds 5 plus the length is way long compared to my tikka 6.5-06. So as you thought less gunsmith money=more hunting money. Then I...

looking to build a a new better handling rifle

Jake, good points but it takes a long time to get the work done these days and the supply chain is always changing. the 4831 isnt an issue at least yet as I have few pounds of it I also have a couple 1000's. Once I decide I will start sourcing bullets but I have a lot of the little older models...
