    Vertical stringing

Im not a gunsmith, but this is the torque on the barrel, so I think the author meant 65 ft lbs

    Accidental Torture Test...

Elk hunting with Win Model 70 280, Shilen barrel and Leupold VXII 3x9. Jumping a small water flow with the rifle slung when the top sling connector came undone. Instinctively my right hand pulled up on the sling (should have just let lose), which accelerated the rifle in a pendulum swing...

    Accidental Torture Test...

Elk hunting I had my top sling swivel come loose when jumping a small creek with Win Model 70 280 w Leupold scope. Had my right hand on the sling when it came loose and in

GOOD TRIGGER WEIGHT FOR A HUNTING RIFLE?

To each his own. Having a trigger under 2 lbs would not be my preference for hunting, but for those that typically use very light triggers I can see it makes sense. Sometimes I get jump shots and the light trigger would be a problem for me then.

Light Weight Rifle for Smaller Hunters?

I started my sons and nephews shooting with a Rem 700 ADL (22 in barrel) chambered in 243. 70-80 gr bullets for practice, 80 gr for antelope and 100 gr for deer. Average size kids could handle rifle at 13 yrs using a rest to shoot. Mild recoil of 243, mixed in with 22 for practice, let them...

What does a custom build rig really get you???

A couple of comments: 1) "no one needs a 1 lb trigger" then why do competitive shooters use even lighter triggers. On the other hand, 1 lb is too light for me for a hunting rifle. 2) "even the least expensive rifle out of the box is an moa shooter" then why do some of my rifles shoot sub-moa...

    Shooting in the Rain

Not sure how the barrel physics of firing under water. Water is much denser than air and does not compress like air. Seems to me pressures would be dangerously high. I've seen video demos, but question whether water was allowed in the barrel. Regardless I'm not trying it or firing with...

    Shooting in the Rain

I routinely put a large party balloon over the end of the barrel to keep dirt, snow, rain, etc out of the barrel. Usually slide it off before shooting, but in few instances I shot thru it with success. I think there is enough gas leakage to blow the balloon before the bullet hits it. If...

    Shoulder shots

On broadside shots on elk, I shot the shoulder to better anchor them. Same on deer if I need to reduce post shot running distance, such as near a property line or other hunters nearby. Otherwise on broadside deer I shoot middle chest cavity just behind shoulder. However if canted broadside...

Bullet puller? What do you have?

Have used 3 methods 1 - kinetic hammer was slow and cumbersome at loading bench , 2 - preferred collet die method but did not reuse bullets except for maybe offhand practice, and 3- just put loaded shell in loading press raise without die in press, grab bullet with pliers and lower shell with...
