    Favorite Deer Rifle

Started deer hunting in late 60s. Used 257 roberts and 250-300 back then Worked up to 280, 30-06, and 280ai. My opinion is that many of us think we need a bigger gun than we really do. Now using my 257 roberts with 7 twist 20 inch barrel on hogs and deer with great results. For bigger game...

    Not Happy With Berger Performance

There is no right answer. Just decide what type of performance you want. I shot barnes for many years and was always very happy with terminal performance and only changed brands because of availability problems. I will always shoot mono bullets If you like the performance of Berger’s then...

    Bullet Construction vs Lethality

My family hunted lots in the 60’s and 70’s Mostly 180 gr nosler partitions in 30-06 over old military 4831 dipped out of a 20 lb or so drum. Hundreds of deer and elk killed so they worked even at long range (probably over 600) yards but horrible trajectory!! I started shooting 130 and 150...

Is the 6.5 creedmoor the new 30/30?

I have killed deer with probably a dozen guns from 6mm rem to30-30 to 30-06 The 6.5 creed is a very well designed cartridge and most factory guns shoot it very well. But it is still just a low/medium velocity very accurate 6.5. Plenty of kill power for hogs, deer, antelope and even cow elk if...

    Help- my gun won’t group

I have a vanguard in rem 7 mag with a muzzle brake. It was shooting great with a vortex scope but upgraded to a nightforce which is heavier. Accuracy went from about 1/2 inch to 2 inches. Sent the nightforce back to nightforce. They said scope was moving in the rings because of xtra weight The...

I even wrote a report in grammar school saying the roberts and 30-06 were the best guns In about 1980...

    Scope choice

I use my 280 Ackley for longer range. To me 700 or so. I know all you true long range guys are much more experienced than I am so I really appreciate all your input. I may even try for 1000 steel for fun Thanks
