I bought a stevens. 243 for coyote hunting a couple years ago. I bought it knowing I was going to spray paint it white and grey. I was looking for a cheap rig. I read the same reports about how well they shot. Mine was all over the place. 6-7in groups at 100 yds. I free floated the barrel...
Sounds like a tight neck issue. I would check the necks on a few loaded rounds and ask the gunsmith what neck dimesion is in your rifle and go from there.
1+ Glass bed the action, new trigger and glass. Then work up a load. If you are willing there is an article on the homepage on bedding the action. So you can do that yourself. install a new trigger all for under $200 plus your glass.
Listen to everyone else and build a better gun for less money. Just look under the "options" for each gun on their website. Action needs truing, trigger reworked and action bedded. You'll be spending over 2k. Not worth it.
I hunt out of state every year and I'm happily married and my wife is phenomenal (with 2 kids I might add).gun)The boys will be joining me someday. Can't wait!
