    Need help mounting please

Burris Signature Zee or Burris XTR rings EGW 20MOA base That combo will run you less than $100 for base and rings, and is quite secure. The Signature Zees are elevation adjustable on their own with their plastic shim system. For hunting rings I think they're pretty nice. If you're concerned...

    Head position at higher magnifications

Re: Full field of view issues Are you comparing both optics on 4x to keep things even? At 15x, you have a 3.33mm exit pupil on that optic. At 4x, you'll have a 12.5mm exit pupil. Compare the difference in area between a circle with a 3.33mm diameter and one with a 12.5mm diameter, and you'll...

    Nikon buckmaster scope?

I do. 4.5-14x 40mm Buckmaster with side parallax adjustment and mil dots. I can adjust up to a 300yd zero, and back to 100yd without problems. It holds zero well of course. Adjustment range in MOA isn't huge, so be mindful of that for most Nikons over 10x when contemplating a long range...

.22 scope for 4-H competition.... Help!

3-9x AO with target turrets? Cheap: Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x 32mm AO ($60 or so) Moderate: Clearidge RM 3-9x 32mm AO (uses a Weaver RV9 scope, but with the old Bushnell 4200 target model zero resettable turrets) Expensive: Sightron SII Big Sky rimfire 3-9x 36mm AO I use the Clearidge RM on my...

Elite 3200 or Burris Fullfield II?

Bushnell: more consistent quality on the glass, stronger scope body, heavier, has their water resistant coating Burris: has a superior semi-turret style adjustment instead of Bushnell's simple finger adjust, usually lighter, can have the ballistic plex reticle, which is nice for long range I...

    Viper 3.5-10x50 vs Diamondback 3.5-10x50

Viper from Doug at Cameraland. It's a better scope than the Diamondback, and retails for the same money since they're on clearance now.

    Vortex Scopes

Viper lines and up are great. The Diamondbacks appear to be a good value, and compete with Bushnell 3200, Nikon Prostaff/Buckmasters, Burris Fullfield II,etc. The lowest Crossfire line can be nice enough, but aren't as well put together as the higher lines. They have a lifetime transferable...

Scope strategy and Vortex 6.5-20x44 questions

I have one in Vplex. Use the vplex wide IMHO. The crosshairs on that reticle subtend very little, even at 300yds and further. Even groundhog or prairie dog shots should be no problem with that reticle, yet it's still bold enough to be seen in fading light for coyotes. The vortex dials very well...

    Burris or Nikon?

-Standard Fullfield IIs (not the TAC series) offer finger adjustable turrets; Prostaffs require coin adjustment. Advantage Burris. -Glass is probably about even between the two, with possibly a slight advantage to Burris. -Nikon has the BDC reticle, Burris has the Ballistic Plex. Advantage...

1 pc vs. 2 pc bases???

I prefer a 2pc base as it gives easier access to the feed area, particularly when dealing with ammo problems in a blind magazine bolt action. Wider 1 piece rails make this a bit more difficult for my stubby fingers. That said, the mounting/bedding and proper securing of the base screws is the...

    sfp/ffp for hunting

A lot depends on the actual reticle being used. Generally speaking, FFP reticles can be harder to pick up at close range in a busy background, since the reticle is usually very thin and small at low power. Basically you either have a too small/too thin reticle at close range that is well sized...

    pressures and brass sorting

I usually just use whichever powder I plan to load with, filling the case to the top and then weighing the charges as a comparison. It works best with powders that don't settle too much (small grained ball powder for example).
