Years ago a buddy was hired to protect an Eddie Bauer expedition through the northwest passage. They provided him with a stainless Model 12. First two rounds were slugs, next three were OO buckshot. His primary job was to stay up and protect the camp from Polar Bears while the team slept.
My game gun is a Beretta SxS in 20 guage. Model 626 with 26" barrels. I bought it long ago in January. Had to shoot it right away. Went to the skeet range, about 0 degrees and ran a box of 25!

The Ultra Light Rugers have really lightweight barrels. I owned a few and had accuracy problems as well. I re-barreled my 257 with a #4 Shilen with a 1-10 twist punched out to an AI. Shoots 100 grain Barnes great. Good luck.
