    Sheep build, UL backpacking rifle

I know you’re looking to do a custom build and prefer a carbon barrel, but I’ll offer my experience. I’ve guided sheep hunts in So Cal for the last 20 years and drew a tag myself 3 years ago, and bought a Kimber Montana in 6.5 CM, put a VX3 3.5-10 with Talley mounts. It comes in around 6.7 lbs...

What binoculars and power are you all using for hunting and scouting in open country

I've been using a pair of used Leica 10x42 BN's for the last 18 years guiding sheep hunts in so cal. I paid $800 at the time I got them. I look through a lot of different glass and they still compare with the newer top end glass, the biggest difference is they're heavier. I also use the new...

    6.5 Creedmoor and Superformance Powder?

I’ve had great results with 130 tsx in my 270WSM also, dropped a 4x4 mule deer at 525yrds went through both shoulders. I called Hodgdon today to ask about temp stability of Superformance and they said it’s not a temp stable powder, which was disappointing. If I get good results with these next...

    6.5 Creedmoor and Superformance Powder?

I’m using Federal 210M primers, the Montana has a 22” barrel and comes threaded for a brake which I have on mine. My Montana is the most accurate factory rifle I own, that said I did go through a little accurizing before I shot it. There’s a good thread on some basic things to do. Barnes has...

    6.5 Creedmoor and Superformance Powder?

Molock, I just picked up a Kimber Montana in 6.5 Creedmoor also, I'm in CA so my only options are mono's. I'm in the early stages of load development with the Barnes 127gr LRX bullets. I'm testing superformance and RL-26, and I've had good preliminary results with both. I just shoot 3 shot...

    Ruger 77 Rebarrel Help

From what I can gather they are almost identical. Had Dakota done a rebated rim to work in a standard magnum bolt face, I thing they would have had more of a following.

    Ruger 77 Rebarrel Help

I have a Ruger M77 MKII that was originally 300WM that I re-bareled because I couldn't get it to shoot anything but 150 ballistic tips. I chose .300 Dakota for the following reasons: Its slightly shorter than 300 WM so it functions even better in a standard long action giving plenty of room for...

    .25 Saum in Southern California

My experience with "gunsmiths" has been rocky, my 270 WSM was built on a 700 SA that I had and it shoots great, the smith who did that job was in 29 palms. I also had him do my rebarrel for the .25 SAUM, Lilja barrel, tried at least 15 different powder/bullet combinations, it never shot better...

    25 Saum Load Help?

Did you see any pressure signs? I'm guessing if you got those velocities with 120's I shouldn't have any trouble getting 3400 -3500 with 100's. What are the specs on your rifle, twist rate, length etc? Mines How 1500 SA with 25" Pac Nor #2 in 1:9 twist.

    .25 Saum in Southern California

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look at the Hammers also. I had the RL-22 on hand so I figured I'd give it a shot.

    .25 Saum in Southern California

I'm in Chino Hills, I usually shoot at Angeles in little tijunga canyon, or at a private range one of my friends belongs to. Occasionally I'll run out to the desert where I can shoot longer distances.

    25 Saum Load Help?

Just loaded up my first batch of the 100 gr Cutting Edge MTH, I started at 54 gr RL-22 up to 57 gr. in .5 gr increments. I think I should be well below max pressure, want to start conservatively. I'll try to get out to the range next week, and I'll post the results.
