.223 loads for Hornady 35 grain NTX

Santa was nice and brought me a couple box's of the Hornady NTX in .223 35 grainers. We do much of our hunting in CONDOR country and need lead free these days. I know that every rifle is different but I could use some place to start on loading these up. Also how are they working for you. I...

    Calling Coyotes--Sealing The Deal

Thanks for mentioning the rapid pivot bipod. I have had a number of folks give me the raised eye brow over my use of these, as if to say "oh those, but their flexible so not as good as brand x". I have great luck using these bipods, they are quiet and fast to relocate and it is easy to keep...

Do you reload your own coyote ammo or shoot factory? Whats your favorite load?

I shoot the new 90 grain Sierra Blitz King out of a 25-06 at 3300. VERY accurate and very much DRT.

    "Effective Range" .25-06

Yep, just about as far as you can hit them, keeping in mind to shoot to your reasonable accurate range. I use one of the new 90 grain Sierra Blitz King these days in my 25-06 at about 3300 fps and it is really accurate out to 500 yards not to mention being devestating to the target. Good luck.

Northern CA BLM spot to break-in new rifle?

Check to see where the nearest Forrest Service land is but do not shoot the trees, they have a fit if they catch you. Shooting is allowed as long as you do so safely, that may save you some driving. Shootable BLM lands are generally few and far between and check the regs for that spot closely...

    how hot is hot?

O.K., today I found a reference to "how hot is too hot" on a Darrell Holand shooting video. He states that you should operate your barrel between 80 and 150 degrees. He also states that much above that can shorten barrel life. That was the original question I was trying to get which is great...

    how hot is hot?

Yeah, the old "hold and wince" method has worked for years, I just thought I would try for something a little more technical/accurate. It seems that hot to the touch is in the neighborhood of about 180 degrees which is not hot for good steel but may start to cause copper to smear under pressure...

    how hot is hot?

O.K. I keep hearing not to get your barrel too hot! Well how hot is too hot, I have yet to find any info in any location as to this question. What I would like to hear is a temperature that is getting into the range that can actually cause damage. Say something that could be measured with an...
