How to stay dry and warm during deer season?

Rain gear- I always buy military surplus as it’s rugged and pretty inexpensive, the downside is it can be a bit bulky. For keeping warm I always wear Marino undergarments, fleece hooded top and windproof trecking trousers and jacket which keep me warm as I’m moving about. Rob

    Camera gear

Hi Guys, I was wondering how many people take camera equipment when on a backpack hunt but more specifically what kind of additional bags do you have to protect your camera. I’m thinking of taking my Dslr and a couple of lenses on my next trip but don’t want to carry a second bulky bag, im just...

Tents for setting up in a storm

I’ve always been a Big fan of Vango tents, bought them when I lived in Scotland and went out of my way to import one when I needed a new tent in NZ. Light, hard wearing and very watertigh.

Current flavor of the month recommended next-to-skin base layer for -15 to +15 sits?

I just buy the Marino base layer that’s on sale when I need it, don’t care who the maker is just the weight of the wool. Just paying extra for a name at times.

    What’s you pack load out?

I was supposed to be heading away for a 5 day Tahr hunt in the morning but the weather has turned to crap so I’ll see what’s it’s like in 5 days and go from there. My pack is about 18kg all up with food, but I think I might weigh it out and put a comprehensive list up later.

    Best ultralight tent (with floor)

I use the Vango F10 helium 2, well unde 2kg and has plenty of room for all my gear. It is also very stable in rough weather so I’ve no concerns with taking it out in all conditions.

    What pack are you using?

I use a macpac Cascade, 75litre. Robust and hard wearing, it’s a single compartment and top loading with a ton of space for all my gear. I really hate crap hanging of my backpac.

    Jetboil fuel canister

If you have trouble finding new canisters get the valve for refilling the one you have.

    Best one man tent

Being Scottish I’ve always used Vango tents, even now that I live in New Zealand. All my solo tents are 2 man, the wee bit extra space compared to weight is worth it.

    Rifle cover

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody is using a rifle cover when walking into your hunting spot or moving through the bush? Something that covers the barrel and scope and can be easily removed if you see an animal. Cheers Rob

Just got my 7mm rem mag back from Gunworks NZ with the new suppressor fitted. Shoots beautifully.

    Suppressors

Hi guys, I have just sent my rifle away to have a suppressor fitted and was wondering if anyone else uses one? I know the laws in the US are quit restrictive concerning getting one but if you've got one what do you have? Rob

    What rain gear

At the moment I'm using the British army MTP waterproofs, good price and hard wearing. So no complaints.

    What GPS do you prefer?

Yeah James, that's what you usually do when hunting to save power. Check out the maps, gps and google earth section and you should get some more info on this. Rob

    What GPS do you prefer?

Hi James, you don't need cell coverage to use the gps. It has the same gps chip as the Garmin and if you download a gps app and the maps you need it will replace a stand alone gps with the bonus of having a camera built in. Rob
