I have shot a lot of game with my .270 W , But since I will be hunting more open Country for Elk and next year Ngali, I moved up to a 300 RUM. I am amazed that the RUM on a Remington 700 action with a muzzle break is much like my .270 in recoil.

I have one on my Coyote gun and love it. It has a few thousand miles of being pounded in temps from 10 to 120 and is still dead on. I wanted to by one recently and could not find one to put my hands on. I think they have a good product.

I have a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Remington 700 300 RUM. I don’t know what the muzzle brake is, maybe Remington? All I know is I am amazed how well it works.

Another vote for Ruger .204. Great ballistics, low recoil, good availability for ammo. Good resale value. I have owned the barrel burners, they are fun but loose their value rapidly and you create limits by having too reload.

The quality of metal today is not what it was 50 years ago. Rusty stainless anyone? This has probably led to problems with higher chamber pressures. Just a thought but most of my max loads are not in modern loading tables.

Check your OAL of the cartridge. You could be seating deeper or as previously stated have erosion. What does the chrono say?

Listen to Butter Bean about heat. As a helicopter operator and large caliber shooter for 50 years, I know just a little heat does magic for removal of any loctite product.

I have been hunting 50 years with various REM 700’s in heavy brush. Stock, aftermarket drivers even double set. Never had a bolt open, never had an accidental discharge. Trying to understand this entire thread?

I just drew the same in the Kaibab. Bought a REM 700 in 300 RUM with Muzzle break for 700.00. Plenty of Ammo 4.00 per round.
