    TJ, Nice job buddy. Glad to know your new rifle is working for you. We'll be finishing up your other project here very soon. Plan to have it done for this month's build list. Again, congrats! Chad Chad Dixon LongRifles, Inc.

    using rosin on scope rings

    Put a dab of lapping compound between the ring/scope prior to snugging it up. The abrasive will bite the ring/scope and prevent movement. It's like having a zillion little teeth chomp on the parts. C.

    question for a smith

    I have the tooling on the shelf. My lathe is prolly one of the most accurate in this trade ($80,000 FANUC controlled CNC slant bed turning center) $200 gets it done. $250 if its fluted. C.

    Custom Rifle accuracy expectations??

    Shane, You know we love ya' and I certainly don't have a dog in this fight. That being said I've yet to see a barrel "overly sensitive" to temperature. Each barrel contour/cartridge choice has its own sustainable rate of fire. -Meaning a 22K Hornet in a NBRSA Heavy contour will go a long...

    Why are custom rifles so Pricey??

    First understand that buying an "action only" isn't as straight forward as one would hope/like it to be. Remington occassionally has a run that they peddle off to Brownells. These are not normal stock items however. Remington wants to sell guns. Not just actions. About the only thing you...

    Torque Recomendations

    Reason I asked: I was faced with this back in 2004. I have a friend in the Seattle area who's an ME. He put me in contact with a colleague of his who's sole job in life is developing fasteners for airplanes. He was kind enough to work up a full evaluation based on an assortment of fasteners...

    Who made this stock

    I'm from the Black Hills of S. Dakota. Sturgis to be more specific. While the bedding job on this stock is pretty nice and probably just fine, it's not at all how I do it. Here's a recent one completed last month. 338 Edge LR heavy hunter: The photos show the stock work before paint and...

    Can a 300 RUM be converted to 338 edge

    I've built quite a few rifles chambered in 338 Edge. All have performed beyond expectation. The Remington 700 Long action with a Magnum Bolt face will work. Most are drawn to shooting the 300 grain Sierra Bullets with this cartridge. To achieve a seating depth that'll still facilitate using...

    Why are custom rifles so Pricey??

    If the $ drives your boat then I suggest this: Buy the best components you can afford. Don't skimp on the barrel and definitely don't skimp on who you have fit it to the action. Buy either a Manners chassis setup or an H/S, B/C stock. All have chassis systems. Slap it together. Likely your...

    Why are custom rifles so Pricey??

    First: It appears the bold assumption is being made that parts just "fall together" and with the wave of a magical wand, the gun looks and shoots great. Lot of spectators arrogance if that's the belief. I am a strong advocate for dispelling much of a mythical BS that goes along with...
