    300 win mag recoil

As with everything: depends. I had a 300 WM in a mid/light weight rifle. I like to be accurate (duh!) and I backcountry hunt miles off the road. Accuracy in real world situations, not off a bench, requires lots of practice. To practice a lot you have to not hate shooting your rifle. I HATED...

    Ruger accuracy

I had one in 300 win mag that I made more accurate by selling it and buying something accurate :). My issue is just time and effort: I have very little spare time to screw around with something that needs special treatment and my particular Ruger rifle did. I'd shoot two rounds pretty...

    New scope?

I'd take them outside of a store and see for yourself on the difference in 12x vs 14x. Personally I see very little difference and would go for the larger objective for light gathering. Going from 40mm to 50mm is a HUGE difference in overall light gathering area, over 50% more square...

    choosing Rangefinder

Leica hands down! I have a 1200 and range beyond that regularly.

    Spotting scope ??????

Been there, done that and regretted it. For about $249 you can get a Minox MD50 from cameralandNY if you want a compact highly rated spotter. I'm about to pull the trigger on one of those! As for angled or straight, it's your preference. I like straight and I use it for glassing critters. I...

    Interesting morning of calling

And thanks for sharing it. Who'd have thunk a coyote would hang up and take all those sounds to come and take a look? Good to know.

    Antelope hunting vehicle

Depends where you're hunting. I've hunted out of a Subaru (lez-baru!) for antelope for years with no problems. 25/29 mpg is nice. However, I foot hunt on public land where there are no roads, so I just park next to the fence and jump over and I'm free of crowds. if I was taking two tracks...

    First long range rifle

Nice! Only suggestion if you're using it in the field vs. bench is a cant/swivel bipod. Couldn't tell if yours was or wasn't cant/swivel. Post pics of groups asap!

    Scope for AR15/M4

for the same use as you posted, other than replacing prairie dogs with ground hogs, and not wanting to break the bank I bought a Bushnell Legend 5 x 15. Definitely not real high dollar but it works great. Has dots so I can do better at range, keep in on 5x for 90% of coyote shooting and put it...

Thoughts on this medium range set up

IMHO what you have is better than a shoulder busting 300. You're totally fine for anything you see within your range, no need to succumb to magnumitis, especially with deer. Many people have shot larger animals at longer range with the same or lower powered cartridges.

looking for a 223 hunting rifle

+1. Helped a friend set up a .223 Tikka last year for prairie dogs. Awesome accuracy, great price, tough to beat.

    Scope Advice

I have the Bushnell Legend 5 - 15 x 40 on my AR and LOVE IT especially given the price. The mil dots help with hold over over 200 yds. I didn't (and still don't) have a bunch of money for optics and this one fits the bill. I shoot very comfortably with it from up close to over 300. However...

    7stw @ 600+

Just got some more experience with CoreLokt's Not long range at all, but I took a nice large bodied mulie buck with 270 130 grain at about 150 yards. Quartering away, bullet entered just behind the last rib, through lungs, through most of the left shoulder and found a mushroomed remnant...

    7stw @ 600+

I have experience with 500+ yards on antelope with 130 gr .277 core locks. Devastating. Not 600+ on deer, but close. Yours will be traveling faster and you'll have 10 more grains of awesomeness. I've used these bullets for over 20 years and have yet to have any kind of a failure. Not the...
