    Cougar crashes and rolls!

Lions are very fast for a short distance, but can't outrun a deer for very long. The doe had a pretty good head start.

Large Rifle primer usage instead of 209 shotgun primer

I haven't really tested it, but I believe that 209 primers with 777 powder causes serious crud rings. I know that with #11 caps and 777 I don't get that crud ring. It could be that the rifle that shoots #11s has a hand lapped bore. I don't know, and the guy that built the Kahnkes is out of...

    Higher elevation groups

I like an exit wound for the blood trail. I shot my first bull with a 140 gr. Barnes X bullet. It killed just fine, but did not exit. I switched to 160 gr. and got exits. I'm shootnig 168 gr. Berger VLDs now and they kill elk very well at 2850 fps out of a 7mm WSM.

Large Rifle primer usage instead of 209 shotgun primer

Svashtar, please tell me which "hotter" nipple you use. I've had misfires with 777 in really cold weather. My best luck has been with #11 Winchester Magnums which I haven't seen in several years. I thinik I'm down to my last 100.

If your oldee is recoil getting to you

X2 on the limbsaver and the couble shoulder pads. I was shooting my muzzleloader with 400 gr. bullets and 150 gr. of 777 one cold morning, and my PAST pad broke into 3 pieces. Now I have a softer pad that goes over it. I won't hunt with anyone who uses a brake. I used to shoot a 7mm-08...

    Bell & Carlson; state loyalty

I suspect I know how that stock broke. I had a Remington 700 on my left shoulder and the safety flipped to fire. Back then my canteen was a bota bag (filled with water). The tip of the bota bag hit the trigger, and the rifle went off inches from my left ear. I think I threw that rifle. It...

    Ultralight Sleeping pads for elk

I don't recall the brand, and amazingly, it isn't marked on the bag. Just google ultralight bivy and you'll find some. Mine has a bug net, which is worth it's weight in gold on a summer trip.

    Ultralight Sleeping pads for elk

I've done one night bivys, with just a thin 3/8" blue pad. If it isn't very cold, I use a short one and put my pack under my feet. It helps if you can be in the pine duff. Now that I'm old, I like a little more comfort. I put a Neo Air blow up mattress on top of a blue pad. I have an 8...

    My son's buck

I'm curious about the buck's age. I've seen elk in decline who don't have the rack they had when they were younger. I once saw a spike with about 18" antlers with some decent mass. We didn't kill it, and I've always wondered how old it was. Congratulations, it is special when your kids...

Please explain why the 168s are dead.

What do you guys think of this???????

I have twin granddaugters that drink 4 to six gallons of milk every week. I could come up with the milk jugs. When Tasco came out with a fancy 3x9 scope I took off the 4x Weaver and put the Tasco on my 8mm Mauser, and went to sight it in. It hit me between my eyes the first shot. I pulled...

    100% Hits to 600 Yards?

I was on an aoudad hunt with a guy that had a high end carbon tripod who claimed he could hit at 500 every time. He didn't have it with him when we spotted a very nice ram facing us at 230 yards. He was helpless without his tripod, and the grass was too high for prone. His buddy finally did...

    Acceptable Accuracy For Hog Hunting

I picked up 100 rounds of Lake City brass a few months ago. I use an RCBS lubing pad, and after lubing the outside, I twist the case mouth down on the pad. I sized them with the RCBS die, and didn't split any. I did the other standard case prep as I'd do with any brass. With a minimum load...

US forest issues kill order for feral cows in New Mexico

TBell, how do you mix in the olive oil with the hamburger? As you grind or after? Here in NM the Gemsbok (Oryx) that escaped from White Sands Missle Rangeange onto the National Park became an issue. The Park decided to round them up and push them back onto the Range. Oryx are known to have...

    Reloading Injuries

I used an old Lyman press for many years. It had a bad habit of closing on its own if I wasn't holding the handle. I got a thin spring and drilled a hole to attach it, so that the handle was spring loaded to stay up, not down.
