From the article Berger recommends 1:8 twist. I don't think my 1:10 will stabilize the 170. I found couple of twist calculators online I will play with them. Giving the old girl some spark is really appealing to me.
When my .270 Win Rem700 BDL '72 model needs a new barrel i'm seriously thinking about putting 270AI on the old girl but with a different twist for the heavier bullets.

Why would you bother with the 270AI
When you could just shoot a 270wby? It’s faster anyways and no fireforming brass.
Yup and the Weatherby uses a lot more powder so more recoil, the brass is EXTREMELY expensive and difficult to find, and......my last statement is it's because I...
I have another one of these on my 5.56 I paid a lot more for and another Midas 4.5X27X on my 6.5 Grendel and they have been flawless. You will be pleased it's not quite equal to my leupold but at the price point I am very happy with my Athlons and why I'm buying a 4th one. These things are a...
I'll get some pics tomorrow. I got a GREAT deal on this scope it's been on my Creedmoor for about 6 mos. but I need more magnification. I probably should have priced it higher but this is a fair (to me) price. My eyes are not what they used to be. It was bought new in box.
SOLD Athlon Midas 2.5-15X APMR1 SFP IR MIL Reticle for sale $250 shipping included
I am replacing this with a 4.5X27 my old eyes need more magnification. Scope is about 6 months old never hunted only been to range. Transferable lifetime warranty
I got a crimp die in and just annealed about 100 cases doing the prep now. Probably load this weekend and try again next week. I will shoot these with the Magnetospeed on and see what happens. If it were mine I would be putting a new barrel on it. In defense there are not a lot of left hand...
The rest of the conversation was a more in depth discussion on consistency on the loads worked up with the mix rather than keeping them separated. He wasn't blowing smoke. Do what you want, after that conversation I'm not mixing them not worth it for a few pennies.
I called Hodgon and ask them about that and he said it is not advisable. I had two bottles of 8208 but different lot #'s. He said that powders degrade at different rates, lot #'s, and even in the same lot #. After it has been used and exposed will also degrade at different rates. In...
Update went and checked after your response it has the standard gas block not adjustable. Son said they were going to try an AGB on it to solve the problems it had tearing up brass and ejector imprints. Ordered the crimp die.
