Scope; Best Bang For Your Buck?

I had the Millett LRS-1 and didn't really have much problem with it. It fades at longer focal lengths and shows signs of lesser glass and/or design, but no show stoppers. When I went big on the rifles, I followed suit with the scopes. I have a NF Competition on a 50 BMG, a NF NXS on a 338 LM...

    Wooden dowl stuck in barrel

If you had a squib and shot another round, then thank the good Lord you still have your hands and eyes (or life). Take a stainless bore rod minus the cleaning bit and bang it out. Choose the closest end. Check your barrel for ringing. Holy cow.

The Nosler Hate... I don't get it.

I just wear a "BEAR FREE ZONE" sign. No gun. Those things seem to work in places like Chicago. Seriously though folks, can't imagine why somebody would make a blanket statement like that. There isn't a bullet out there that somebody hasn't had a bad experience with and most likely it was...

My Fat Bastard Gen II on a custom 338 Lapua Magnum has been pleasant to shoot.

    Gun Control Florida Shooting

Theoretically (and constitutionally), neither the exec or the legislature can do anything about the 2nd Amendment. It's in the Bill of Rights and can only be interpreted by the Supreme Court, so long as when it's violated somebody sues and the SCOTUS agrees to hear. There's a powerful...

    Bullet availability

I've seen the Berger thread. I think it's great that they're upping their production process and I might even move over to Berger. But I did load workups and designed my own model around the Nosler bullets, so when the supply dries up unexpectedly, it puts a crimp in MY program. Availability...

    Bullet availability

I found a bullet I'm pretty happy with, and it's not really too much of an oddball, so I wouldn't expect that it would not be available, but find it not in stock and "no backorders" from some of the vendors. It's a Nosler Accubond .338, 300 gr. I emailed Nosler with this message: Why in the...

Help me decide.....Please. Leupold or Nightforce

I had a couple of NF scopes and had no complaint whatsoever about them and decided to buy a Leupold Mk IV 8.5 - 25 LR/T for one of my new rifles just to check them out. I'm way more than pleased with the Leupold.

    Becoming a Gunsmith

My opinion only, but I think one of the most fundamental aspects of being a good gunsmith is first being a good machinist. Things like trued threading on barrel ends, chambering, shouldering, and so many other things about gunsmithing are first related to skills as a machinist. I worked as a...

    Should I send it back?

http://www.vortexoptics.com/uploads/web_manual_rfl_viper-pst-13b.pdf Question: Is the "radius bar" (the red line) supposed to be manually set to match the zero position? Looking at the manual, it comes off if you adjust zero stop and there's notes about it supposed to be lined up with the...

    Newbie scope advice

I can't speak for the Burris, but the Leupold and Bushnell you mentioned ought to be outstanding. I was buying Nightforce, and although I can't complain about them, I experimented with a Leupold high end scope and have nothing but good to say about it. If the three you mentioned are within...

.30-.378 Is this a real shoulder buster?

I bought a 338-378 Mk V Accumark and absolutely hated it. Almost sold it until I modded it. Re-barreled with a Bartlein 30", JP Systems brake, and re-stocked with a B&C Tactical Varmint that fit. Currently, it's livable. The brake is great at recoil reduction and the stock fits nicely...
