    9.3x62 Does anyone shoot it?

I've been using a 9.3x62 for several years now but certainly not for 'long range' hunting past 300m. It has proven extremely successful on everything from pigs, deer, sambar to Asiatic Water Buffalo which are larger than Cape Buffalo. The comments about thinking about it as a light 375 H&H are...

Are high powered scopes really necessary for hunting?

I've settled on a Swaro Z6i 1.7-10x42 for all hunting. My .375 H&H has a Swaro Z8i 1-8x24 and the .416 Rigby has a Leupold 1.5-5 x24 illuminated. Have had scopes with higher top end power and bigger objectives but in the field, never had a scope on higher than 6x. Top quality glass and field of...

    6.5 Creedmor- the Holy Grail?

No flack from me. I agree completely with your thinking. Whilst there are always better substitutes for cartridges for a particular job, there is absolutely no substitute for common sense.

Bullet failure 130 grain nosler partition with 6.5 creedmoor

I wouldn't blame the cartridge or the bullet. When shooting genuinely big game, cows or otherwise, I believe in heavy-for-calibre bullets of suitable construction.

Do you prefer a hunting rifle with a detachable mag?

I use both and it isn't an issue as long as one is familiar with the specific system. I did have reservations to begin with because the detachable magazine I have cannot be top loaded whilst in the rifle. The manufacturer explained to me that the reason for this was that single stack magazines...

    H-S Precision Rifles

Why did you sell it? Am thinking of investing in an HTR in either .300 Win or .338 Lapua.

    H-S Precision Rifles

I use an H-S PHR in .300 Win for just about everything except the likes of buffalo and it is superb. It lives up to its .5moa guarantee with Federal's 180gr Triple Shocks as well as their 180gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaws. Can't ask for more than that from factory loads. Yes, they're...

300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag

If you're serious about hunting game the size of elk at the ranges you mentioned, .338 Lapua or .338 Edge would be my pick.

    Considering 25/06 as a varminter

Hired Gun, I admire your guts and determination to get things done. Yes, life is too short to simply let it pass by. I hunted in Zimbabwe almost eight years ago and it certainly lived up to my dreams. It was a plains game hunt and easily the most memorable I've ever had. My dream now is to...

    Which Weatherby

Victor, I shot an Accumark in .300 Win and it was a gem of a rifle. The .300 Weatherby will recoil more but I'd imagine it to be tolerable in that rifle. I'm with Christopher; the two pounds don't bother me...as yet! I'd rather know that I can comfortably shoot the rifle well.

    Considering 25/06 as a varminter

Hired Gun, As Ageo308 mentions, there are a variety of deer species that can be hunted here in Oz as well other 'game' species. Also, there are what we term as 'feral' or varmint species such as rabbits, foxes, goats, pigs and others. If you are interested in coming Down Under, your best bet...

    Considering 25/06 as a varminter

Brian, Well done on keeping the family tradition alive and well! The .25 calibre came up in conversation with some mates and it does seem unnecessary to have a .270 as well as a 25-06 given they are both based on the same parent case. Then again, this could be a benefit. The WSSM, although...
