Win Model 70 or Rem Model 7 7mm-08

I have both and have used the Winchesters and Remington since the 60s. Both are great and wish had not traded off any of them. I shoot both the pre-64 and the new ones as well as the Rem. 700s and 7s with no problem. As I am old (77) what hunting I do is with Rem. 700 mountain rifles with wood...

So Will the .270 Win Overtake the CM's and PRC's?

You are correct, there was only one guy that liked the 270, he and minions of us love it and grew up with the 270, killed literally everything with it, including a boxcar full of elk and deer, then lost our mind and turned to magnums. Still have my old pre-64 but it is rather heavy for a 77yr...

Anyone use a sleep apnea mouthpiece?

I sucessfully use a "Bright Guard pro 2.0", wife tells me it is good.

    .280 or 6.5x284 for elk

Ditto. While I have killed many elk with magnums and 308, my last 20 years have been with an old Remington 700 mountain rifle in 280. Perfect elk gun. Very accurate and quite light enough for this 76yr. old hunter.

Scope that won't break on 300 win mag

Quit screwing around and get a good Leupold. I have the 4.5x14 on 3 30cal magnums and these scopes do not fail.

Anyone use a sleep apnea mouthpiece?

For several years I have worn a "night time dental mouth guard" made by BRIGHT GUARD (Amazon) that works quite well. It stopped my nightly snoring and allowed me to get much better sleep. The moulding of the guard is the tricky part as it is a challenge to learn to do it properly. Three of us in...

    Mountian Rifle Hunting Scope

For many years I have hunted with the older Remington Mountain Rifles, bedded wood stock, pencil barrel. 270 & 280. Both put the first 3 shots in .6-.75". Settled on the Leupold VX3 4.5x14 on both. At 76yrs old, these are my primary HUNTING rifles for everything. Works for deer, elk, Javelina, etc.

    old guys and shooting

At 76, I am shooting the best of my life. A few years ago, I was shooting 4" groups wondering what happened to my good groups. I talked with a real benchrest shooter and he had me shoot a known gun, a 6PPC. He shot less than 1/4" consistently but I shot a large group. Went back to basics, breath...

    Long Action 7mm-08?

There is nothing wrong with a 270. I killed my first 7 bull elk with a 270 and the 130 Remington core lock. I still use a lightweight 270 as my carry gun but use my 300 Wby for my longer range stand shooting. There is some sharp recoil with the 270 but by holding the gun against my shoulder...

Hunting with 129 sst Remington 260

If it works, don't mess with it. A dead deer is dead no matter the bullet.

    Good whiskey and cigars.

    School me on weatherbies

I shoot a 300 Wby in a Remington 700 classic made several decades ago. Very accurate and with a muzzle brake, it is not abusive to shoot. Picked up 100+ once fired RP cases a few years ago and still shooting these cases. Not a target or varmint gun but a great deer and elk gun with the 180...

    Best Elk Bullet...

Elk hunting is a terrible disease, at 75 yr old, still going out and sitting on a favorite ridge with shots from 50 yd to 700 yd. Yes, I shoot long range all year so I know my gun and load. Killed a number of elk, most in the 100-300yd range using the Nosler 180 Partition in a 300 Wby. Last...

    Hike Less for Success

So right. In my 50+ years of elk hunting, I have only forgotten my light (and/or extra batteries) once and I really paid for it. In a mile hike out of the Salmon river county, in the dark, I ended up with all kinds of scrapes, cuts, and bruises and a few bloody places - I was lucky that I did...

.260 Remington as an Elk Rifle

You are so right, it does take a 338 Lapua Magnum to kill anything. I have a buddy that shoots a 400 something Magnum but he cannot hit anything. Think he needs a 500Gibbs.
