Have you ever had a what the h--l shots?

My sister shot a 10 pt buck with a marlin 45/70 guide gun. She hit a 6" cedar tree instead. The bullet went through the tree, hit the deer right behind the ear and lodged in the skull! How slow do you suppose a 45/70 has to be going before it won't exit a deer skull?:D

Sierra 140 GK in 280 Remington

Yes, I thought about a regular large rifle primer. I also think that I have some wiggle room in COL. I didn't try to find the lands yet, I just took an "average" COL from similar bullets in several manuals. I suspect part of the issue is that the base of the Gameking boattail is seated farther...

Sierra 140 GK in 280 Remington

"If it were me, I would probably use Hodgdon's 280 Rem data for the 140 grain partition for the SGK, working up toward the max." That's exactly what I did. I'm loading for a Model 70 featherweight, 22" barrel. The Hodgdon Hybrid 100v data for the 140 gr partition out of a 24" barrel shows a 50...

Sierra 140 GK in 280 Remington

Thanks, it looks like it would be a good option, I just can't find a listed load anywhere.

Sierra 140 GK in 280 Remington

I don't have a sierra manual. Does anyone have starting and max hybrid 100v loads for the 140 gr Gameking in 280 Remington? The Hodgdon site has one for the Nosler partition, but not the Gameking.

Let's hear your best poison ivy, poison oak stories

Down here in the Florida swamps, the poison ivy grows into big clumps on top of the old cypress stumps and logs out in the swamp. During logging operations, the ivy is crushed by the equipment and logs being dragged over it. This releases a fine oil that covers the entire surface of the water in...

I don't think he likes hogs......

Not yet, but there are a number of individuals around here who'd like to meet up with him.....

I don't think he likes hogs......

The hogs come by and eat the mineral block... And he comes every night and takes a leak on it!:D

    This guy needs to die...

He's carrying half of a fawn. The pelvis and hams are in his mouth, one leg is sticking up and one leg is hanging down. My normal level of animosity to coyotes, already high, has just increased exponentially.gun)

    Old Winchester Model 12

Here's a PDF with the year dates of Winchester serial numbers. I'd be interested in knowing what year yours was made, as I don't know how late they were still building the 2 9/16" chamber guns.

My 2016 Utah Wasatch Late Bull

Nice bull! That's definitely one of my dream hunts, hope to do something similar some day. I've got the 8mm already, I just haven't managed to make it out there yet. What load are you shooting out of your 8mm?

    Unusual Wildlife Pictures

A series of shots of a bull alligator bellowing. Note that the vibration gives the water the appearance of "boiling" over his back.

    Closest All Time

My son's first deer ( he was 11 at the time) was 4 steps from where he was sitting in the canoe, and less than that from end the barrel of the shotgun. It was curled up asleep behind a big cypress tree as we glided quietly by. The deer was still behind the tree from me, and when he suddenly...
