it was a good source of surplus powder but it looks like he's out at present. still has good deals on brass and bullets...
If you hit a remmy primer well and it is properly seated, it will fire... I've fired a dumpload of them between rifle and pistol and the only gripe I have with them is the small pistol ones like to turn a bit once in a while seating them, and you end up with a sideways primer. I think the cup...
HH sporting goods in Bismarck had one on the shelf the last time I was in. You might want to call them and see if they could toss ya a couple of pics/ ship it to your lgs if you like it...
Just think 300 grain pills and powders like 4895, v540, rl15 and you will be fine. It's a long powder column so I use a mag. primer even though the powders it uses aren't that hard to light.
Yup, there is a downside to overspinning. Soft jacketed bullets tend to have issues with it, cast bullets skid and show poor accuracy, any imbalance to the bullet will be made worse for accuracy too.. The slightly higher drag from the faster twist won't cut more than a few fps though.

Me too. I just buy a big enough hammer to start with, then give it a bit of head room. Then I test in hot and cold temps. before I hunt the load. I live where I live you can often test hot/ cold in the same week.

If all goes well, 1 or 2 days a year. If all doesn't go well add a couple days to that. We only have a 2 week season on deer here with an extra weekend, so you have to get out and work for the critters. I'm also rather locked into working during the week most years so I only get the weekend.
Interesting on the 8" twist, but I don't think the H&H would be that great at pushing bullets heavy/long enough to need it. My 12" twist Remmy 375 already does well with anything I can throw at it. Using 285 Speer GS, 300 Barnes tsx, and 280 grain hard cast gc lead in it at present and all spin...
I'm not sure we are ever going to mod. this rifle at all. It shoots well as it sits and my eldest son has commandeered it already. I wouldn't mind finding another one in 300win but it seems they are either 600-700 bucks or 1500 bucks for 1 of these rifles, depending on model and who has it.
