best way to clean fowling --

I will use Hoppes 9, and brass or nylon brushes to get the carbon fouling out. Follow that up with sharp shooter patch out copper removal. It usually takes about 10-12 patches jagged through the bore to get the bore cleaned out. For extremely fouled bores,,,, I cut the bottom hem of an old...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

Last weekend, I took the first round of test rounds out. Since it was a new to me powder, and from reading positive experiences, I loaded up StaBALL 6.5 test rounds. I was delayed getting on the range due to a match that was in progress. It was 98 degrees when I got setup, and 101 degrees...

How often do you clean your hunting rifle

X2!! I will clean after every testing round (usually 35-50 rnds)without fail and to the point of nothing green or discolored on the patches. Then I run a rem oil jag patch through it and then a dry jag patch. I never hunt with a clean bore. I'll sight in the rifles before hunting season then...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

My Lee book didn't cover R17 for 140gr bullets. At the time I was shooting with a group of people that were using R17 in their 6.5CM and were using the Sierra load data. This is what I used: https://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2020/01/6-5-creedmoor-load-data-charts-from-sierra-bullets/

6.5 CM load development, round 2

I'm reading good things about Staball! I've never used it but looking forward to seeing how it performs. I believe I'm going to be focusing on H4350, H4831, Staball and R17 as a starting point on this round. I have a varied selection of bullets already, but I will be looking into the Hammers...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

Thanks for the heads up! I ordered 50 to see and may get more. The bullets I have used didn't have the cannelure, but like you said, these have a cannelure. And that brings up a curiosity I have always had, What purpose does the cannelure have? Does the cannelure affect down range...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

Big Game and the 140gr partition worked very well on the first round of testing, but the Accubond, R17 was a bit tighter.

6.5 CM load development, round 2

When I first took the gun out I couldn't believe how heavy the trigger was! I shot it 10 times and left. All over the place in about a 4" circle. I was close to selling it and going to a better rifle. I found these guys and their kit made all the difference...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

My focus is on 140gr projectiles. I haven't tried any of the 143gr or 147gr projectiles yet, but I'm curious if the extra weight will be more accurate in windy conditions. I researched the Hodgdon site and noted their data for the powders I chose. The Hodgdon site is a wealth of knowledge.

6.5 CM load development, round 2

Thanks for the input guys! It's great to hear what you've used and your success's. And all are duly noted. Most of the Hodgdon powders are new to me, as is StaBall and 4895. I do have a question about StaBALL, where does it fit in on the burn rate chart? I'm looking forward to seeing how...

6.5 CM load development, round 2

I have just gathered up components for load testing for the 6.5CM. The gun is a Savage Axis 22" barrel, 1:8 twist, bone stock with the exception of a shimmed and lighter trigger. Factory trigger was very heavy, so I bought a lighter spring and shimmed the trigger for a better feel. I put a...
