I have a choice, both in a X Bolt either a 280 or 308 It would be a back up rifle for my elk hunt to my 338 and also used for mule Deer and white tail. What would be a good choice? I do reload. Thanks Kevin.

I have been shooting the 53 & 55gr V-Max out of my 223. Same load for both bullet's, 26.0grs H4895 CCI BR primers is good accuracy. 2.250" groups at 300yrds. The 55gr with a BC of .255 is 5.5" low at 300yrds. The 53gr with a BC of .290 is 8.5" low at 300yrds. Now stupid me forgot the...

Does anybody have any idea on the barrel life (approx # of rounds) of a standard out of the box hunting rifle (Savage,Browning,Rem etc...) in 223 ?? Just loading standard hunting rounds from say 3250-3400fps. Thanks. Kevin.

I have the standard X-bolt and I love it! I have tried the 165's and they shoot pretty good. I've only tried 44,44.5 & 45gr's of Varget, so far 44.5gr's has been the best but not by much. I'm going to play around some more in around the 44.5 range. Kevin

Thanks for the info guy's, thats the bullet I'm going to use then. Do you think I would be better with the 165gr or 150gr. I do like the higher BC on the 165's. The only reason I ask that is because I'm shooting a X-bolt and it's 1-12 twist, maybe the 150's would shoot better?? Kevin.
