195 Berger from a 28 Nosler. Initial velocity was about 3070 FPS. The bullet completely fragmented on impact and penetration was minimal. The deer ran about 200 yds before piling up and expiring...the deer was about 80yds out.

I second all of the above suggestions to use a stout non fragmenting bullet on a moose...ESPECIALLY if there is any possibility of a shot under 200 YDS.....this pic is a 165 pound whitetail deer that I hit with a 195 Berger from my 28 Nosler....The bullet didn't even get through the chest cavity...

I am shooting a straight 260 with a 28 inch barrel. I am getting right at 2900 FPS with 139 grain Lapua Scenar....and this is about the max load in my rifle with a long throat..I agree with the previous posts that 3000+ with a 22 inch barrel will not be possible.

Nope...I have never tried the Moly coated bullets. When I got the gun i started with the 142 SMK, the Berger 140 Hybrid, and the 139 Lapua Scenar. The lapua gave me the best and most consistent accuracy, so I settled on that.

I was just out shooting my 260 today. It is a F class rifle so the barrel is fairly long,,,,28 inches. I was shooting 139 Lapua Scenars over 47.0 grains of 4831 SC. velocity was averaging right a 2910 FPS according to Labradar. The freebore is longer than SAAMI spec and the bullets are seated...

Great looking rifle. Do you happen to know the weight? Also do you happen to know the freebore that the gunsmith used in the barrel? Lastly, what diameter are the rings?

Yep, Here is the load data from Berger from back when they would still send it to ya....Only caveat is that my gun is built on a long action so I can seat my bullets considerably longer than a SAAMI limited setup. I have really been impressed with the RL26 in the .300 WSM with the heavy bullets...
