    Testing some .308 loads

I am just getting into reloading and worked up a few rounds. I was able to go out and test some this evening. I was pleased with the results since this is my first time reloading. The 41gr. load definitely shot the best. I don't know what was wrong with the 40.1gr loads. I was all over but I...

    Update "long Range" shot photos

Thanks for the input. My reloading book (Hornady 7th edition) shows a velocity of 2600 FPS with a Hornady SST 165 Gr bullet. however their factory 165gr SST state a velocity of over 2800. I know it varies from rifle to rifle, but i am almost at maximum load and I seem to have a much slower...

    Update "long Range" shot photos

Today was the first time that I've shot reloads. The problem was that I shot the factory rounds first and I think the barrel was too hot when I shot thew reloads. I don't have a chronograph , but the team at my work does, I'm goin to try and get out this weekend and use it and create a drop...

    Update "long Range" shot photos

Well I was able to go out today and try out 500yds (actually 507.5). This is the first time I have ever shot this far. I am shooting a Weatherby Vanguard .308 and I was shooting hornady SST 165gr. factory ammo. After shooting I have a couple of questions. My first two shots hit the target with a...

My long range rifle and first shots

Thanks, Im using the Hornday Superformance .308 165gr. SST factory rounds. I just got my reloading equipment and I have an "old Pro" coming over to teach me. I'm going to be trying to duplicate these rounds, as they have worked very well for me.

My long range rifle and first shots

This is my first "long range rifle" and first 208yd shots. By long range I mean I am hoping to get out to 700yd accurately. I know that many of you would not have went this route but I am very satisfied, since I purchased it on a limited budget and it has worked very well for me. It is a...

    .308 Hornady hunting bullet

Thanks for all the advice, I went yesterday and bought the Hornday SST 165 gr. From what I've read on these they should perform like the AMAX. But I guess I'll find out after I shoot a few.

    .308 Hornady hunting bullet

I Have recently started reloading, and am trying to find a good Long range hunting bullet. I've been using Hornady A Max 168gr. But I recently read an article that said that was not a hunting bullet. According to Hornady's site it is? Any advice would be appreciated. I understand different...

    Stupid Question

According to my drop chart, with the MOA I have now I should be able to get out to about 700 yds. I have not tried yet, but that will be plenty for what I am doing. I just started reloading and I am going to try and test out some rounds today...

    Stupid Question

I was able to go out and sight it in this morning the wind finally slowed down. I now have 30 MOA up and 40 MOA down. My estimates earlier were approx. . I guess I was doing something wrong with my bore sight. Thank you for all of your input.

    Stupid Question

I am trying to mount a scope, I bought Leupold bases and rings. But I am only able to achieve approximately 12 MOA up and 70 MOA down with my scope. I used a ballistics calculator and with my rifle and the ammo I am using that is not nearly enough for the distance I want to shoot. I am sure...
