favorite powder for 45-70 modern loads?

I've been using AA 2015BR since the mid eighties with 300gr Hornady bullet in my 1895. I am just about out of powder and internet resources say the "new" 2015 is interchangeable.

    Sell or hold

I went through a phase about 20 years ago and got rid of ALL my Colt handguns due to their quality and strength. The Rugers I had (still have) were built better and fit more into how hot I was reloading the ammo. Now, every time I see a "Colt" that's for sale, I cry inside. They could have been...

    How many use “Old” Scopes?

    I have a Mid 1970's Weaver K4W on my 1895 Marlin 45-70 and several 70's Leupolds and early 80's Bausch & Lomb's mounted.

Bino Harness Selection (AGC, Kuiu, Badlands, Marsupial)

These are the reasons I picked the Badlands 4-5 years ago for my 10x42 Swaros. It also has bungee tethers for binos and rangefinder. I haven't looked for anything else since.

Do you remember the first centerfire rifle you fired and do you reload for that caliber today?

I was about 10 yo. Dad's deer rifle, a Long Branch .303 surplus he bought for $15 out of a barrel of guns in the mid 60's. He picked the .303 because the ammo was cheaper than 30-06. His other choices in the barrel were 03-A3's. Still have the 303, but do not load for it. Too many other to load...

    Bino pack

Badlands Bino XR. Magnetic closures for Bino and rangefinder, separate area for rangefinder, tethers for binos and rangefinder, plenty of storage for extra rounds, lenspen, cell phone...etc. In mine I also keep a compass and topo maps. When I get out of the truck to go into the woods, it's the...

    Scope Lens Covers While Hunting

From my experience, the use of any see through scope cap defeats the purpose of buying good glass. And the use of the flip up caps add too much to the diameter of the ocular and objective bells, interfering with the field of view. Why spend sometimes a couple thousand $ on glass and then cover...

    Scope Lens Covers While Hunting

I use a neoprene scope cover until I get to the stand. Then it goes into my pack until I'm loading up at the end of the day. I keep a camera lens cleaning kit with me if something gets on the lens that interferes with my view. It has a fine brush with a blower bulb. It has handled everything for...

Is the 243 the best whitetail deer cartridge?

Personally, the .243/6mm Rem bullet availability is too light for deer over 125 lbs on the hoof. All the deer my daughters and I have shot with either round, have never had a pass through using several different bullets around 100 gr. The deer have always been dead, but run at least 100 yards...

    Cough Suppressor?

I still have the Cough Silencer in one of my tubs of hunting stuff I don't use (wasted money tubs). I bought it 20+ years ago. Tried it around the house for a few days and never did get it to silence or even muffle a cough or sneeze. You have to pucker your lips around the small tube to make a...

    Brass Drying Rack

I roll the brass in a towel, then transfer to a dry towel on the floor. I spread them out so there is just one layer and put a box fan blowing across them for an hour or so. Then roll and spread again with the fan blowing for another hour and then their ready to go.

Wheeler FAT wrench digital or analog????

I've had the Wheeler digital for several years. It works well and is easy to use as long as you keep your eye on the readout. Only complaint is the beeper is very irritating.

    What the hell happened

Since I have had them they were in the factory box inside a 50 cal ammo can with 500 or so other factory and reloaded rounds. These were the only ones with corrosion.

    What the hell happened

A few weeks ago, I opened a new box of .223 Hornady Tap ammo that a swat buddy of mine gave me a about a year ago. 8 had some corrosion on them. The pic are the worst of of the bunch. I cleaned the one on the left. It looked like there could have been a pin hole in the brass causing the circular...

Who is your favorite hunting influencer?

My dad! As far as authors, while all previously mentioned are great, to me the best hunting storyteller was Peter Hathaway Capstick. Whether his personal experiences or his retelling of past greats adventures, he makes you feel like you are there for the hunt.
