Accuracy due to velocity, charge, or random...?

A rocket scientist might care about "nodes", because they do exist. However, a shooter only needs to be concerned with finding the particular velocity that allows each different bullet fly best. If you can't make a particular bullet shoot well enough; try a different bullet, and then see what...

    .300wm neck tension

For the 300 Win Mag I recommend using the bushing that is .003" smaller than the neck diameter from one of YOUR loaded rounds. Be sure to measure this area if you ever switch to a different brand of brass; because neck thickness can vary (by several thousandths) when you switch to a...

    7 STW with tight/minimum headspace

270wsmnutt . . . . Measure your FIRED case diameter above the belt (using the wide part of your calipers). Then, take the same measurement on one of your tight fitting HANDLOADS. The diameter of your handloads should be .001" smaller. If not, you are looking at the real problem. Take a...

    7 mag brass problem

After everything in the imagination of mankind has been tried . . . . call me. I have solved this problem for well over 6,000 shooters.

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

Crazyhorse . . . . You’re right that case neck thickness does vary. Case necks can also thicken as brass migrates forward at almost every firing. However, these increases are in the realm of ten thousandths of an inch. Measure the neck diameter on one of your fired cases, and you will be...

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

Looks like you're all set I would purchase the reamer to be sure the neck diameter has .0015" to .002" clearance. Also, make sure the leade and the throat fit your Berger 175 Elite Hybrid. This requires you to send one sample round to your reamer maker. You select the seating depth when...

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

Ingwe . . . . Simply try another bullet of the same length and weight. There is no need to make this complicated. The selection of 30 caliber bullets is incredible. It simplifies things when you start with what usually works best. Then once you establish a benchmark accuracy load you can...

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

I use Berger bullets as a benchmark for accuracy testing. They have a spectacular selection of bullets, and every bullet variation is designed for maximum accuracy (including hunting bullets). Every box of Berger bullets is marked with the optimal twist rate. I've found that if you are...

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

johnlittletree . . . . Right. As long as you are able to spend the time, money, and effort, it's better to go for the best accuracy possible. A standard production reamer has way too much neck clearance to consistently provide top accuracy. Unlike any pre-chambered barrel production barrel...

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

ZG47 . . . . You are right about the importance of using a roughing reamer . . . . then use a proper finish reamer. It's well worth the extra time and money if you value your finish reamers.

    Re-chamber for 7RM Question...

I wrote an article on this subject. It explains how to know you will end up with an accurate barrel .... before you spend the money. http://www.larrywillis.com/Custom%20Barrel.html It is a much better deal to purchase your own chamber reamer for your particular needs. This way you can use...

    7 mag brass problem

BW64 . . . . Your FL die is adjusted too low. It is plowing brass rearward. I've seen this many times before. Set your FL die height to bump the shoulder back .001" and no more. You may also have a die that is just too tight for your particular chamber.

J E Custom . . . . I’ve been a gunsmith too (continuously since 1969), mostly part time. My website has over 150 pages showing innovative tech tips with shooting & reloading projects designed to motivate shooters and promote the sport. For the most part, shooters (and gunsmiths) are some of...

    Who knew about this tool?!

J E Custom . . . . Keep in mind that I’m not selling anything here. I’m retired. There are 6,000 shooters using this die, and they use it for a good reason. If you don’t need it . . . . that’s great. Many of them didn’t need it until one day they found that they did. The first 2 or 3...

    Who knew about this tool?!

BULLBLASTER . . . . I'll bet I've received over 1,000 phoned in orders from shooters that admitted they thought they could do it too. I'm now retired, and I still get those calls. - Best of luck to you.
