Low Priced Long Range Scopes by Ian McMurchy

There are a couple of interesting scopes on the market since that was written. Nikon has an ED long range scope in their Monarch series that is very sharp and reasonably priced. Also the new Bushnell 6500 scopes are amazing performers in my tests. Both of these scope are not in the lowest...

phases of new gun build (phase 3)

I am interested to hear that the larger WSM case will work with the short WSSM action in the Winchester, did you have to do something with the magazine for the bigger cases?

    Goodies pack

Check out SpecOps.com or TexasHuntCo and you will find some of the best field packs out there. They have the best I have found to date and I use their stuff continually. Great idea to keep your small stuff together and organized.

Hornady is bringing out a mono bulllet

Grooves would be more appropriate I believe. Very good looking bullets from the images I got.

Hornady is bringing out a mono bulllet

Hornady just announced a new line of GMX bullets, Guilding Metal Expanding, that are very interesting. Looks like AMAX with a couple of bands. Everyone is into mono bullets! This is getting interesting. Caliber/Type Diameter Weight Ballistic Coef Item # 270 Cal. GMX .277" 130 gr. 0.46 27370...

Let's Design the Ultimate Soft Gun Case for a Long Range Rifle

I have been discussing this idea with a Canadian company that makes very good quality gun cases, good enough that our military uses them for their drag bags for the current issue .338 Lapua sniper rifle. Here are some basics I would like to see in a really good, rugged gun case. Appreciate...

    Cool new tripod

I used them on two trips to Africa and they are the best shooting rests I have found. Tough, stable, easy to setup and adjust. Expensive but worth the money if you shoot from other than prone. Still prefer the Harris for prone. I used two BogPogs, the tripod up front and a bipod under the...

    this sucks

You simply have to follow a bunch of rules and red-tape and that stuff is doable. Suggest you contact Denise Tiffany at Leroy's Big Valley Gun Works in Glasgow, MT and she will explain how you can order and obtain that stuff. She is an importer/exporter that really does a fine job for a lot of...

Share your shooting range organization ideas

Len, Hauling gear to the range is a necessary evil. I bit the bullet a long time ago and bought a couple of Filson canvas bags that have been the answer for keeping all my stuff organized and for throwing into the back of the truck loaded. They are big enough for ammo, spotter and stand, data...

    Plate thickness?

I have a couple of their targets, the deer and yote and they are very good. Not cheap but once you have the target and IF you take care of it should last a very long time. No close shooting simple as that. Saw a .300 Win. shooting Trophy Bonded 180 go through the AR500 gong at 100 like it was...

    10MOA base for Savage?

Forester, Perhaps you are missing the point of using the sloped base, we want to be in the bottom 1/3 or 1/4 of our adjustment range. You never crank down so you would be wasting 50% of your adjustment potential. Seems like a good idea, keeping the reticle centered but it is somewhat...

You should be kicked off if you don't share that story, wow, great bull! Let's hear it! Well done.

    Nikon ED50 initial review

I have that little scope also and you are right-on - it is a fine optic. First time I saw someone using one I thought they had a video camera going, they were hand holding and looking at 100 yard targets. Try that with a bigger heavier scope You made a fine choice. Did you know you can get a...

    barrels for canadians?

My friend Darcy Bowyer, Bowyer Outdoor Sports in Maple Creek Sask. imports Lilja barrels and usually can supply them reasonably quickly. Lilja's are about as good as any barrel made anywhere, I have several and they are incredibly accurate and clean up nicely.
