I have a 2.8-20 zeiss V8 and it's the brightest scope ive used. Can see animals through the scope well after swaro binos stops picking them up. If the Diavari is on another level to the V8 it must be something special!
I've shot 7 red deer in the last year with my 6.5x284 and Berger 153.5 hybrids from 70m out to 550m. Performance was consistently great at all ranges so I'm very pleased so far.
I put a bartlien 2b on my old 270 Tikka T3 and chambered it in 6.5x284. In the last year I've shot 7 red deer and a chamois buck with it and I'm very impressed with it so far.
20" barrel supressed
153.5 berger hybrid
RL 26 2850fps.
How do you find the accuracy with RL26 in the 30N and what sort of groups are you getting? I have been running H1000, but looking for other powders to try (Retumbo and N570 are not available).
I had a 300 win mag Sako Finnlight and wanted a left handed rifle again so went for a custom chambered in 30 Nosler. It's a great cartridge but you wont go wrong with either a RUM, PRC or Win Mag too. Mine runs about 150fps faster than the win mag with 215s, but performance with the 230s is...
What twist do you have?
I have a Bartlein 2B 8 twist ordered for a build and I think I'll go 7 saum as ballistically it fits right between my two other rifles and I've been interested in a saum for quite a while.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks it took quite a few years and lot of trips to find a bull like that on public land! Certainly very pleased and who knows, that might just be the biggest one I ever shoot.
I don't know Chris Bilkey but Geraldine is a good spot and I often pass through there when I'm going...
I use 153.5 Bergers in my 20"6.5x284 at 2830fps. Only shot one red deer so far.
200m shot high in the shoulder and it didn't take a step.
I'm very impressed so far but now I need to shoot some more animals to get a better sample size to really be conclusive on performance.
I have one carbon barrel from Bartlein. It's a 26" Sendero profile, 9 twist on a 30 Nosler. It sped up quite a lot through barrel break in and took 100+ shots before it settled down. It is the easiest barrel to clean that I've owned and now shoots 0.2" three shot groups, including a cold bore...
Thanks Bro!
Just personal preference really, I like suppressors on short barrel rifles or smaller calibres. My 20" 6.5x284 has a DPT supressor which is awesome.
On a rifle with a longer barrel or larger calibre I prefer a muzzle brake. Animals seem to react similar to both and often don't...
Im not sure how to compare the country. I've watched a lot of youtube videos of Alaska sheep hunts and our terrain seems similar (That's a dream hunt for me). Only here its possibly steeper with bigger consequences if you get it wrong (please put me straight if I'm wrong!).
The scrub is pretty...
Unfortunately, they have been trying to completely wipe them out from the national parks and have been targeting all animals including bulls. Outside the national parks they have been targeting the nannies to reduce the breeding and in some areas the males are looking pretty lonely this year...
Fantastic story and an inspiration to a lot of us I'm sure. Look forward to hearing more about your shooting systems, how its developed and how your competitive shooting goes!!
