    Long range muzzle loaders

Getting to 300 yards for deer sized game is fairly easy with a standard muzzleloader. Give it a good bedding job and find the right load. My .50 TC Omega will shoot 4" groups at 300 yards with a 300 gr SST in a black Harvester sabot, pushed by 85 gr by weight of BH209. For long range elk...

    Anyone using H-1000 and 140gr VLD's in 6.5-284 Norma?

    Nope, I am using RL17 in mine. I looked through my data and I see: 24" barrel Berger 140 VLD H1000 start - 51.5 gr = 2562 fps max - 54.5 gr = 2731 COAL = 3.228"

    700 vs 721 remington

I just finished building a Rem 721 into a modern 6.5-284. I added a 26" Brux #5 barrel and it now resides in a HS Precision stock from an old Rem 700 Sendaro. I added BDL bottom metal and magazine box. I had to notch the stock for the safety. Left to do is build up a little for the rear tang...

getting my 3 fire formed cases

Not trying to be a prk, but if you have to ask, are you sure you are ready for a wildcat?

Why start at 10% below maximum?

Commercial ammo manufacturers do often use propellants that are not available to you and me. I am not saying they don't use off the shelf powders, but they have a few more offerings than we get. They also have pressure testing equipment that the majority of average Joes do not. They have...

Accurizing a Rem .270 win CDL SF

Not to berate your abilities but are you capable of shooting smaller groups? Repeatable accurate shooting is a deteriorating skill. I laid off shooting a lot for 5 years and I can definitely see a difference in the groups. It does come back with proper practice though. Even with a new gun...

    Sighting a new scope.

Another peek through the bore fan here. I can get it close enough this way to hit a 8.5x11" paper target at 100 yards on first shot. Fine tune with shooting after that.

    mausers?

I have a few commercial Mauser 98 guns in my safe. One is a FN action with a big 28" fluted #7 Pac-Nor chambered for 6mm-06 Improved that will reach out there and frag varmints. I am getting ready to build my last one as a 375 Ruger on a Interarms Mk X action.

IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

I have tried a few powders in the 300 Wby and stopped looking after I tried N165. My gun is a Rem 700 with a Pac-Nor barrel that is 28" without a brake. I am getting 3350 fps with 180 gr Scirocco II bullets, Rem brass, Fed 215M primer, and VV-N165 powder. It shoots right at 1/2 MOA also. In...

    rem 700ML

Those mods will also make it shine with BH209. One of the biggest drawbacks to the Rem 700ML is the blowback. I have been thinking about doing a bolt nose job on mine for a while now, just to shoot BH209. I had it rebarreled once about 10 years ago and it shoots great but if it shot BH209...

    Bedding: Aluminum vs Glass

You got it. Bedding makes a negative image of the receiver so once it's torqued properly, it will return to zero.

MOA vs MRAD Vortex Viper PST

The MOA proponents say it's more accurate using 1/4 MOA than .1 MRAD as its a smaller increment. The MRAD proponents say it's quicker to calculate in MILS compared to MOA or Shooter MOA. IMO it does not matter. Both are proven and dependable. Pick a system and stick with it. Ranging...

    Disappointed with Swift Bullets

I use them as my 300 Wby Mag loves the 180 gr Scorocco II. I just loaded up 100 of them so I will be set for the next decade or so with this hunting gun.

    Bedding: Aluminum vs Glass

I too have Devcon bedded all of my HS Precision stocks that have aluminum bedding blocks. It makes them more repeatable. It did not change the accuracy any (group size is still same) but the POI does not shift around like it did.

having second thoughts...NOT ANYMORE im decided now

Good choice! My action and barrel is at my gunsmiths for a 6.5-284 build also. I went with a 26" #5 fluted Brux barrel. This is more than heavy enough to do the job and still functionable in the field for offhand shots when needed.
