In your situation, I would recommend shooting 5, or even 6 shot groups. It will allow you to better understand where things are really at. And definitely keep track of which fliers in their order in the group.
+1 to most all of the above. Let me add...shooting either bench rest, or prone with bipod, get the rifle unto the the exact "point of aim" (POA) with your body not influencing, or really even touching it much. Then curl your body around the rifle rather than having to make adjustments to the...
Try the new Teslong Rifle Bore Scope at Amazon. Finally, high resolution at $50.00!! And with a more precise manual focusing system, you get get it even more clear in the vids here. Include the word "rifle" in the Amazon word search box. Teslong makes scopes for other applications also.
Teslong has just made a high resolution (down to .22 cal.) bore scope...at $50.00!!!! At Amazon, use word search "Teslong RIFLE bore scope"; they have many other scopes for plumbers and engine mechanics, etc., so use the word "rifle" in the word search. I contacted them 9 months ago, when I was...
+1...I hope the poster is leaving something out about how he will be getting his elk out of the canyon. If he can't get in to set up your suggested steel target, he would not be able to get the carcass OUT. I admit to being a bit confused here.
+1 to all the suggestions here, but I'd add a muzzle brake to any rifle shot by a 10 y/o. I hope are bringing him to the shooting range a lot...and then he'll need a light recoiling rifle.
Hi Guys: Since I get this forum in my email box each day, I came to read the post on the barrel break-in. Then I noticed the "Inspection" post below it. I am a shooter who was frustrated with the prices of expensive bore scopes; but knowing the great benefits of owning one, I contacted two...
Sorry...I failed to attach the cited quote in my response above. Here it is...
Twist rate starts to effect chamber pressure around 1/4 twist and faster. 1/3 twist would have a significant effect.
There is no difference between 1/8 and 1/7.
Also no difference between 1/7 and 1/12 in 5.56mm...
Here is a second piece of evidence from the 300Blacktalk forum. Tested results again seem to come down on the "negligible effect" side. A different poster said that there will be no measurable pressure spike until you are dealing with 4:1 twist rate.
While this isn't an exact answer to the pressure question, I feel this Accurateshooter page is worth attaching here. It shows that rifle twist has barely any effect on velocity. The difference between exact same barrels (Bartlein on Savage) differed by only 5 fps between an 8" and a 12" inch...
Lete me second all of Mudrunner's words. I have two 308's (Savage 10 and H.S. Precision HTR Takedown). I also have a 6.5 Creedmoor, and I don't think of them as doubling up at all. His load advice is the same as mine. I shoot 42.5 of Varget with Sierra 168 MatchKings, giving me sub .5 MOA in...
I forget the actual thickness measurements, but you will be happier with the thicker cross hairs of the Night Force NXS versus the 50% thinner cross hair lines of the typical Vortex scopes. I own both. The thinner lines of the Vortex supposedly let you aim more accurately at smaller targets...
