    50 caliber muzzleloader bullets

I have 2 TC Encores. Both have done well with Blackhorn 209 powder and Harvester sabots with a variety of bullets. My .50 Encore prefers the red larger diameter sabots. I typically use Hornady XTP or TC Cheapshot lead bullets. I just returned from an elk hunt and had great results with a Cutting...

    Utah, Beaver East Muzzleloader

I was fortunate enough to draw the non-resident Utah, Beaver East, muzzle loader tag. I'll be hunting with Jake Bess Hunting as the outfitter. He filled me in on what to expect form him. I'm curious if anyone has any input or experience from this area? I have not hunted Utah before. I'll be...

    That's great! Good for her.

Tripod Bino adapter- still carry a spotter?

I've expressed this opinion here before and it is unpopular. But it worked for me. I run my swaro 10X42's on a tripod and then use my 8-32x nightforce rifle scope for final determination. Obviously I'm not scoping something I don't have an interest in shooting. The binos get me close enough to...

    backpack pics

Here is my loaded pack for a 7 day backpack hunt. We did split some camp gear but it would have been about the same for one person going solo. Bulky but it came in about 60# with rifle, spotter, tripod, etc. Could have shaved a few pounds but we were comfortable in camp and had our long range...

    Walnut Stocked Versa Max

Very nice Joel! I'm sure that was a bit different from your normal stock job.

    bipod or shooting sticks

I keep a short bipod attached to the rifle. But, I'm always prepared to use the spotting scope tripod, trekking poles, backpack etc... to create the most solid rest possible. In steep terrain you need to be quite creative sometimes.

    Light weight midrange rifle ??'s

I would look at the new Kimbers first. You will do fine with one m.o.a. out to 500 yards so any decent factory rifle will serve you well. Find one you like, get a muzzle brake installed if it doesn't have one, and get practicing. Out to 500 yards you will be well served by a mil dot or BDC...

What youth rifle for my son?

I concur with the TC Encore. My son, eight years old, shot three whitetails last year with his. He shot them all using the 45/209 muzzleloader barrel. I also have a 223 heavy barrel and a 7mm-08 barrel. Without a brake the 7mm-08 has too much recoil in my opinion. He loves the muzzleloader...

    Sitka or Kuiu

I have the guide jacket and use it a lot when hunting for the day. I find I'm not using a softshell much when backpacking anymore. I prefer to just use a 1/4 zip shirt, primaloft or down vest/jacket and my breathable rain jacket. So I leave the softshell at home. This is at moderate temperatures...

    Sitka or Kuiu

I have some of both but have been leaning more toward Kuiu for my dedicated back country items. I find them to be lighter, simpler, and very functional. For day hunts the Sitka gear is very nice. But when I'm wearing the same set of clothes for a week or more, I want the very best:)

    Solo vs. multi person

On a backpack hunt I really prefer to hunt with THE RIGHT person. Two people that work well together makes for a very efficient sytem and hunting team. Lately I've been hunting with my 9 year old son. It makes for more work than a solo hunt right now. I'm looking forward to when he can carry...

    SOLD/EXPIRED .338-.408 Improved ** SOLD **

Re: .338-.408 Improved Wow Joel! I can't even allow myself to think about how cool it would be to have that in the same stable as my Bubinga stocked 308 Baer that came through your shop at the same time that one was built. They are practically litter mates:D If only... I'm already jelous of...

    Pair Of Old School Aces

Very nice Joel! I really like the spiral "fluting" or flats on the barrel. I'm sure you and your dad will have a great time.

Leupold Vari X II with Target/M1 turrets

I use a leupold 6.5-20x LR model with M1 knobs. I've never had them move, even going in and out of a Gunslinger pack. The clicks are very positive. If you zero out the turret using the set screw on the side of it you will know right away if it does move. That said, I'd rather have the target...
