    Long Action 6.5 PRC

What's new is old again? I have to admit it's amusing to see 6.5 PRC owners switching to LA. Us 6.5 x 284 shooters have used that trick for years! Works great!!

    7PCR vs 284shehane or other 7mm

I own a 6.5x284 and a 7mm PRC and used to have a .284. All three are really useful cartridges and provide a good level of accuracy when handloaded. The 7mm PRC is really easy to load for and the factory ammo shoots pretty well (both the match and hunting loads, haven't shot the monos yet)...

    Cartridge debate!

You can make the 7mm PRC really shine with handloading, but the factory ammo is pretty good as well. The 7mm PRC is certainly adequate for elk. Mine shoots 3/4 MOA with the Hornady 175gr ELDX and even better with handloads. Currently playing with a number of different bullets using H4831sc.

    CH Tool and die

I have bought a couple sets of dies from them. They have very good dies, and their customer service is good. Definitely want to call to confirm items are in stock.

THEE only gun you'd never part with

Many years ago read a review by David Petzal on the Savage 111 LRH when it first came out. He said if it came in left hand model he would definitely own one. Bought one in 6.5x284. It is easily a 1/2 MOA rifle and has accounted for numerous speed goats, mulies and white tails. Have run...

    257 Robert's

H4831SC and H414 both work really well in the Bob. My Kimber in .257 was difficult to get to shoot with heavier bullets, but loves the 100 grain bullets. Both the 100 grain TTSX and Nosler Partition shoot sub MOA in the rifle with very good velocity. I have both Remington and Frontier brass...

    Pick My Project

I have had rifles in both .284 and 280AI. Both are very solid performers. All things being equal, with a long action, I would vote for the 280AI. The brass is easier to come by (or make) and there is a lot of load data for different weights of bullets which gives you a more versatile...

    Wyoming Area 45 Elk hunt

You definitely want to buy a point this year! I am a former resident of Wyoming and I can tell you the non-resident draws are getting tougher every year. They do have the "premium" draw so that might help you out. Wyoming also has the Super Tag Raffle as well which can be helpful. Elk unit...

    CO Leftover Help

So you will be looking at non resident tags. Most of the leftover antelope tags are in areas with limited public access. The SE Colorado areas public land has the antelope blown out very quickly. If you want to hunt this Fall you would be better off with an OTC Elk area. There's some decent...

    What am I Missing 6.5x284

51.6 grains of H4831SC and 142 grain SMKs and 143 grain ELDX. Both near 1/2 moa at one hundred. This is a great load with fireformed .284 brass, but also works well with Lapua brass.

    Looking for new 308 win

The gentleman that posted the picture of his 8.5# rifle in .308 failed to mention that's a Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed (looks like it). I have owned numerous rifles in .308 and currently have the X-Bolt HCS and it is a tack driver out of the box. The only modification to mine was to...

    6.5x284

The Cons are consistently as stated, lack of factory ammunition and lack of factory rifles chambered for it. The PROs are many if you are a handloader. The cartridge can be stupid accurate with powders such as H4831sc and bullets like the 142 grain SMK and the AMAX. There are so many hunting...

    Interlock vs SST

I shoot 129 grain SSTs out of my 6.5x284. Chrono speed of 2910. These were originally designed to be my fire form load from my Savage 111 LRH. First, these are stupidly accurate out of this rifle. Secondly, I have shot more than 20 deer and antelope with this load out to just past 400 yards...

Having hell with my new 300win

Have had numerous 700s. Have always found with the more recent ones that they foul terribly and require serious, regular cleaning. I always replace the factory stock and trigger. 200 grain .30 caliber bullets and H1000 are a match made in heaven.

    Thinking about a 6.5x284

My 6.5x284 is in a Savage 111 Long Range Hunter. Out of the box with factory ammunition it shot to 1/2 moa. It shoots about the same with a variety of handloads. Most of my original handloads utilized fireformed Winchester .284 brass although I have also been using the Lapua brass and mainly...
