OAL is 13thou off lands and doesn't fit in mag. Very similar to Smoked's load. Same primer just I am running 90gr Retumbo. Quite mild in my rifle because of the bullet seated right out but with the factory barrel accuracy goes away if loaded any hotter. As usual start lower and work up.

I have a load using the 230 gr Berger and Retumbo that gives me 2910 fps and good accuracy from my Remington SPS stainless with factory 26" barrel. Quite happy.

My load in a Rem 700 factory rifle is 90Gr Retumbo 230Gr Berger Hybrid Target lit with a Fed 215 primer. 2911 pfs with no pressure signs. Accuracy is good at this load. If I increase the charge the accuracy decreases.

I reckon lighter bullets going faster will do your barrel in faster. Stick with what you are using and use it for hunting it will last you a long time. Get yourself another rifle like a 308 for range use.

Any increase in powder weight and the groups just open up. Give your rifle a good chance to cool between shots and you might find it will do better. The third shot in a string will have that SPS barrel really heated up.

Were you using the exact same projectile that you used the first time you measured it? With those long bullets it can be very difficult to get a consistent reading even with a comparitor. Also with them even a very small amount of erosion of the throat can mean the bullet can go much further...

I have the same rifle as you and have two loads for it. For magazine use 200gr Accubond on 92gr Retumbo lit up with Fed 215 at 3.660" For long renge single feed 230gr Berger Hybrid Target on 90gr Retumbo with Fed 215 OAL 15 thou off lands (Very long). Both loads give fine accuracy well under 1"...

Did you have any oil in the barrel for that first shot? That can really boost the pressure in a 300 RUM. Make sure that you clean all oil out before firing.

I am loading the 200gr Accubonds at 3.660 for magazine length and the 230gr bergers way longer. The Bergers are 10 thou off and are definitely just single loaded.
