Actually the longer a bullet is seated out in a rifle, the more pressure is created since the bullet is seated closer to the lands, when the round fires the pressure is directed down barrel, when as with a shorter seating, the chamber throat allows for pressure to expand a bit...its kinda like...

Also this is kinda of a no brainer ,but, I thought Id put it out there. Are you letting the barrel cool between shots? That can also string some shots if firing too fast and not letting it cool down. I saw that you had thought of that after I posted this...were you able to try it?
