What about an AR in 300 ACC blackout? It would be flatter and have more reach than a .40 and be slower and fatter than a 223 so it might not ricochet quite as bad. I always thought the blackout was the most useless thing the gun world has ever seen but it might be slick for that use...

I agree with the muzzle break ideal. But that said if you want a new gun just cuz its fun, if it were me I would really consider a fast twist 270WSM and the new 170gr. EOL hunters from berger. But that's just me!:)

Shot an elk at 160 yds with a 162gr 7mm, hit it 3 times none of them came out but one stopped under the skin on the far side. Moral of story, I agree with snox801 they are just a little soft but for deer size game they should be about right.

I think I would call the place you got them from and tell them whats going on and see if they will exchange them for a new box. Your local smith probably has a go-gauge for your round and if the bolt closes on it there is probably something up with the box of ammo.

If you are measuring off of the tip of the bullet it could be the bullet tip itself that is that far off from one to the next. The other thought I would have is, how compressed? The reason I say is my shooting partner was telling me that he had some loads that were so compressed that after...

I don't claim to be an expert at all but as far as I can tell there isn't much rhyme or reason to where each barrel will want each bullet. I have seated them anywhere from .005'' jammed to .125'' jumped. As near as I can tell you just have to start shooting and find out.
